  • Chal Bhaag

...may have looked like a screwball crime comedy on paper, but you'd be hard pressed to come across a more awfully-executed production this year.

  • Citylights

Mehta and writer-editor Asrani pull off a rare feat here. They not only choose the right film to adapt-based solely on its theme and universal topicality-but build upon the original, without being overambitious.

  • Children Of War

...there is rarely any cause for hope or joy and sadness is only succeeded by further despair. I recommend its power to feel alive, but this isn't for the faint-hearted.

  • The Xpose

Intentional or not, this film gets away with it the same way Om Shanti Om does-not designed as biopics (Heroine) but as unwaveringly cringe worthy stories mirroring the era they represent...

  • Hawaa Hawaai

Gupte works hard to imbibe collections of moments into his storytelling; the love and conviction for his subject is indisputable. Hawaa Hawaai isn't as compelling as his previous efforts, but still merits a watch for the gratifying culture he has constructed.

  • Koyelaanchal

Commercialism, greed, murder, chaos, brutality, self-indulgence...the filmmakers are guilty of all these traits. Here is why Koyelaanchal ranks as one of my most difficult viewing experiences:

  • Kaanchi

...an ancient tragedy of behemoth proportions. Let's just hope that Mr Ghai regroups and doesn't end up like the other veteran director that hires his own students to make and break his movies.

  • Dekh Tamasha Dekh

The power of this bizarre premise lies in its' unyielding narrative style— peppered with a bunch of motley characters that add little by way of pace, but offer great scope for priceless set pieces.

  • Jal

...is constructed as the kind of expansive cinema that begged to be shot on pure film. Rather unfortunate, because Jal ends up as the kind of film that begged to be pure unadulterated cinema.

  • Dishkiyaoon

...confounds on a very basic technical level. Baweja sincerely tries, but is undone by scrambled writing that relies more on colorcoding than action or entertainment.

  • Gang of Ghosts

I wouldn't go as far as declaring this imitation to be the best form of flattery, but Gang Of Ghosts does arouse enough curiosity to make you want to watch the real deal. Excuse me while I procure a DVD.

  • Bewakoofiyaan

This is the kind of middling film that one doesn't know what to make of. It looks clean, simple and doesn't boast of any highs or lows. Everything, including the change of heart(s), is predictable.

  • Total Siyapaa

...definitely lives up to its title, but not in a good way. This is a bad kind of chaos-the sort Joker creates in Gotham-despite a cast oozing with potential.

  • Darr @The Mall

Within the confines of this stumbling genre, director Kirpalani does a decent job with a predictable script. There is only so much originality left to operate with; even the ghosts have begun to look alike.
