    Summary

Ali (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is an extortion debt collector for the local goon along with Maqsood (Arbaaz Khan). His fate turns when one day he and Maqsood go to a golf course to collect extortion, after waiting for many hours for a man to give him money. Ali confronts the man who tells him to wait while he finishes the hole. Ali claims the hole is easy, so the man asks him to show it. Ali putts the ball in just one ace for he has a gifted natural swing, This not only surprises the man but his caddy as well who knows him. What follows is an inspirational story of a simple extortion debt collector to a golfing sensation, and along the way of him becoming a champion, Ali beats all odds and meets his dream girl, Megha (Amy Jackson).

Critic reviews and ratings

  • While the first hour of this film is time pass, the second half loses steam because of its repetitive narrative style.

    69

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...is a sweet little comedy that's sure to put a smile on your lips. Nawazuddin's performance alone is worth the price of the ticket.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • Despite the cliches and melodrama, we found Freaky Ali worth the time and money. From the ‘talented actor’ for the intelligentsia to the common man’s entertainer, Siddiqui is one star we love.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...has flashes of fun but could’ve been far funnier. Watch it for Nawaz’s endearing performance.

    49

    Critic rating (?)

  • Even though Nawaz performs well in 'Freaky Ali', the film is surely not worth the ticket price.

    49

    Critic rating (?)

  • Director Sohail Khan pulls all the plugs to give the film a mass appeal and that is why it probably works.

    49

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...as is always with any film from the bhai stable, the film's makers did not give two hoots about the film's script, which is why Freaky Ali ended up being two hours of zzzZZZzzzz...

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • He (director Sohail Khan) squanders the dramatic potential of the plot and ends up with a puerile comedy involving dons, puns and women as eye candy.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...kick starts with rib-tickling moments but fails to retain the humorous momentum throughout as it falls prey to predictable plotline and a disappointing second half.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • It’s entirely on the writers and actors to make the proceedings seem crucial or comic. What shows up on screen is plain lazy on their part and it's painfully dull to watch.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • Though it’s called Freaky Ali, Siddiqui’s Ali is the least freaky of all the characters and his performance is the only reason this film is not a complete washout.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • The story starts out to be great fun, but it becomes so repetitive in the middle that even the jokes are a drag and then dragged down by Bollywoodisation of the story...

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • The film is like a sixer on a golf field, irrelevant and unnecessary. Even Siddiqui’s brave act can’t save this one.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • It is disappointing how this movie, with such a promising start, descends into cliches of the typical sports film.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • Nawazuddin Siddiqui is capable of carrying a film on his own shoulders but the film drowns in its own silliness.

    29

    Critic rating (?)

  • Nawazuddin Siddiqui lives it up as the hero, churning out punchlines and playing the romantic lead in a creaky fantasy about bridging the gulf between the working class and a rich person’s game.

    29

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...is a mockery of a comedy in which nothing really comes to a head.

    29

    Critic rating (?)

  • As plain and dry a sports underdog film as can be. Having you root for the actor, not the character, doesn't bode well for a film.

    19

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...is predictable to the core replete with every cliché of a typical sports film that you can possibly think of and, is marked by old fashioned story-telling and over the top, slapstick humour.

    19

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...we thought this was going to be a realistic picture about a poor man from a basti taking up a gentleman’s sport, that’s golf. Well, it partly is. About golf? Maybe. Realistic? No.

    19

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...even the gifted Siddiqui cannot save Freaky Ali from its own flimsiness.
