Critic reviews and ratings

  • ...with a screenplay that surprises and performances to match, SBG3 successfully takes the legacy forward with minor bumps on the way.

  • ...Dhulia has made an entertaining film which thrives because of the efforts of its main cast. It's an earthy saga, where the boundaries between good and evil are almost nonexistent and hence might not prove to be everyone's cup of tea...

  • The usual intrigue is maintained in the story, but so are the performances, style and tone – making it a repetitive film in many ways.

  • ...is a bit of an underwhelmer, but not unwatchable — and the reason goes back to what the Randeep Hooda character said in Part 1: “Is haveli ke sab log pagal hain.” Everyone’s bonkers — even the filmmaker.

  • The law of diminishing returns has finally caught up with one of the most unlikely film franchises in recent memory.

  • ...is a disappointing fare thanks to its long length, flawed script and haphazard direction.

  • Pretty much like the political prowess that the film's fading, flailing feudal figures and their cohorts exercise, the potential of the premise to deliver surprises has, on the evidence of this outing, waned significantly.

  • The erstwhile prolific Tigmanshu Dhulia is seen clueless and is betrayed by his own script. There are flashes in between as the helmer displays some fine visual fettle and that's all anyone can do with such a cockeyed plot.

  • ...is complex but not enjoyable. It is perhaps the weakest film of the franchise.

  • Much more money has been spent in this part, to make it plusher. It’s shinier, sure, but much less on point. In the power-hungry, sexually charged games the trio and its hangers-on play, there’s a lot more that topples than towers.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • At least it had mystery and it was told honestly with some amount of panache. Be warned; the third installment in injurious to health. It lacks substance, style, spirit and spunk.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • Out of place wit, flimsy motives, clumsily picturised songs, dispensable characters, phony instances of adultery and a parody of a climax ensure there is no hope for Dhulia's depthless, disappointing, drama.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • The weakest of the trilogy, this story takes exceedingly long to set up the key players and their motivations.

  • It’s a good reminder that a bigger budget and bigger scale don’t necessarily make for a better film.

  • ...high ambition and low vision result in amplifying tracks that worked in the past, even if they come at the cost of a disjointed story.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • The trouble is, the story is fine on paper, it's the sleazy execution that makes the film unpalatable.

    29

    Critic rating (?)

  • The film is a thriller crafted as a drama, which dilutes its pace and rhythm. Whatever little momentum the thriller aspect of this film creates, is washed out by the lacklustre drama that constantly interjects the narrative.

  • The Saheb Biwi aur Gangster movies have thrived on the combination of sex, power, lies and backstabbing but this time around Dhulia is low on ideas, humour and most importantly a compelling narrative.

    29

    Critic rating (?)

  • The first two Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster films were gratifying action-and-vengeance-packed rides. This one is just okay.

    29

    Critic rating (?)

  • The complexity of the relationship between Jimmy and Mahie is not a point of concern for the writers. They have assumed that the audience already knows it after the past films. That leaves the two actors grasping for straws. Actually, whatever worked in the previous films is absent here and add-ons are totally out of sync.
