The Lunchbox
...is seemingly simple yet as complex as all human beings are. It’s sad yet throws up humour when you are least expecting it. It’s not larger than life, it’s just as large as life always is. This film is truly sensational.

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero
It’s sweet, funny and goofy, a good ol’ clean comedy from Bollywood after a long time.

Grand Masti
The women of GM are never more than a sum of their breasts and buttocks. The men here have their entire beings centred around their penises.

John Day
Director Ahishor Solomon is clearly well-intentioned and not without talent, but he fails to bring it all together into a compelling, convincing whole.

Shuddh Desi Romance
It’s brave all the way and bouncy up to a point, beyond which it just gives up.

Zanjeer
The effect of the boring and unimaginative remake is that it made me long for the old film.

Satyagraha
There are places where Satyagraha is truly compelling, heart-wrenching and unpredictable, but too much of the time, it defies probability and is just too painful to the ears.

Madras Cafe

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara
The lasting impression though is of a sliver of a project, not a fully fleshed out film.

Chennai Express
...is not unrelentingly laugh-worthy, but it’s still good enough for a relaxed, pleasant evening.

Rabba Main Kya Karoon
...is a cliché. To make matters worse, it’s lackadaisically acted, poorly edited, unimaginatively directed and stars two uncharismatic actors in the lead.

B.A. Pass
This is an uncommon film done in by a hesitation to go the whole nine yards. Still, the atmospherics are terrific, and for that it’s worth a watch.

Ship Of Theseus
That a story with such profound philosophical underpinnings could lead to a film so simple, so small, so unpretentious, so sweet and yet so endearing, so entertaining, so humorous and so intriguing would be inconceivable to most.

Ramaiya Vastavaiya
...if I could sue for the over two hours of my life lost to this film, I would.

D-Day
Why bother with common sense and logic when populism has been known to work magic at the box-office? Why bother even if it messes up an otherwise decent film?

Sixteen
...don’t go looking for a massive epic and what you’ll get is what it is: NOT a nostalgia ride harking back to your own youth, but a realistic slice of urban, upper-crust teenaged life as it is today.

Policegiri
"Assault on the senses" is such a critics' cliché. Films like this are why the phrase is indispensable though.

Ghanchakkar
...after an impressive set-up, there are entertaining bits and pieces in the second half of the film, and the last couple of minutes of the climax are not bad at all, but it just doesn’t add up.

Shortcut Romeo
Ganeshan's direction is inconsistent. There's a disconnect between his storytelling style in different parts of the film. Plus he elongates a story that might have been effective as a one-and-a-half-hour songless thriller into an over-two-and-a-half-hour long, song-filled affair.

Raanjhanaa

Ankur Arora Murder Case
For the sake of good cinema one can only hope that Suhail Tatari gets back on his feet, brushes himself off and finds a great script in which he invests sincerity and conviction, to make a film that’s worthy of his talent. Ankur Arora Murder Case is not that film.

Ishkq In Paris
if you’re a die-hard romantic like me, then you might be in a mood to close your eyes to this film’s many flaws. I suspect that's the only way Ishkq in Paris would be your cup of tea.

Unfortunately, the rest somehow has a been-there-seen-that-in-this-or-that-Hollywood-film quality to it.
