Titli
This is an impressive debut, and the only one I can recall right now that puts up such a loveless, unlovable bunch on screen.

Toh Baat Pakki
...surely even films seeking to occupy children can strive to be more than just the blandly competent (and brightly coloured) fare that plays routinely on kiddie channels on television...

Total Siyapaa
...despite a few big laughs, the film never becomes the farce it so desperately wants to be.

Trapped
Even at a 100-something minutes, Trapped feels a tad stretched, but Rajkummar Rao ensures that the film is never less than watchable.

Tubelight
...Kabir Khan is no Hirani, and he is simply unable to tune into the good-hearted whimsy this story needs – and after the initial portions, Tubelight begins to drag its feet, becoming almost unwatchable.

Tum Mile
A love story set against a great downpour isn’t all that it could have been – but it isn’t nothing either.

Tum Milo Toh Sahi
...a crisscross of lives converging on a depressingly drawn-out courtroom proceeding.

Udta Punjab
...follows films like Shanghai, where a top-notch cast and crew cannot disguise the truth that the underlying material, all these revelations, are so banal...

Uri
It’s too long, too bland – and yet, this muscular throwback to a yesteryear cinema culture isn’t without its occasional pleasures.

Veere Di Wedding
...is a lazy film, too content with easy zingers. Issues are raised and resolved in so little time, it looks like a new scripting technique: premature elucidation. But whenever the film doesn’t try too hard to show you how hip it is, it’s not entirely unlikeable.

Vicky Donor
...is one of those films that looks as if it’s going to shatter a hundred different on-screen taboos, but it’s actually as old-fashioned as they come.

Vishwaroop II
A not-exactly-needed sequel, but a solid delivery mechanism for Kamal-isms.

War
...is a defining action movie of our time. It’s Hollywood enough to rock the multiplexes, but it doesn’t forget its roots.

Wazir
An entirely needless remake supposedly targeted at women respects them the least.

Wedding Pullav
It seems to be more of an educational video put together for future generations to get an idea of the ingredients in the rom-coms of our time.

Wedding Pullav
With no one to particularly invest in, Well Done Abba turns dull very quickly – and it doesn’t help that complex issues are raised and redressed with insulting simple-mindedness.

Wedding Pullav
The director, Gurmmeet Singh, rounds up able actors – Deepti Pujari, as a naïf from Saharanpur, is quite good – but they’re let down by a series of sketches that must have sounded good on paper but fall flat on screen.

It’s interesting, certainly. But look past the style, and there’s little substance.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
...my experience of it was similar to what I felt with Wake Up Sid – plenty of beautifully thought-out moments, lots to like, but it should have been so much more. Mukerji has this tendency to pick up heavy subjects and treat them lightly, which can be frustrating at times.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
An entertaining screwball-noir is also in the running for the year’s unlikeliest love story.

Zanjeer
The most frustrating aspect of this Zanjeer is the cynicism on display, as if the audience would show up just because lines like “Yeh police station hai, tere baap ka ghar nahin” are reproduced.

Zubaan
...it’s a problem when what’s meant to be an edgy coming-of-age story is hijacked by a campy, entertainingly nutty family soap.
