... a wholly enjoyable ride in the theatre, yet again. Don't think I need to say more. You won't miss this anyway.

This film actually has a darn good script, if you could excuse the hero for a bit. Just a bit. But how can you?

Dam 999
The visuals, hardly scary, or real, appear for a minute or two max. We continue to be treated to some third-rate plot around an unrequited, horoscope unfriendly romance: "River of love flowing into the sea of separation..." Right.

Dabangg 3
...there's no point intellectualising, analyzing, mentally masturbating over a movie that makes no bones about its severely lowbrow, literally below-the-belt purpose.

Dabangg
It'd be a shame to watch this anywhere outside of an old, decrepit single screen theatre, in the spirit of the loud tribal tradition that Hindi movies have always been: severely light on both the brains and the wallet. Mad stuff! Really.

Daas Dev
This rough, dusty roller-coaster ride though is still about the stolen moments (music included), some delightfully wonky folk, crackling scenes (screenplay co-credited to Jaydeep Sarkar), top-notch dialogues, soaked in the patois of contemporary Lucknow (co-credited to Tariq Siddiqui).

Crook
This is an "issue-based" film that closely analyses racist attacks against young nihatthe (helpless) Indians in Australia!

Coolie No.1
None of this campy comedy from the times of Campa Cola is done with any sense of irony. Making everything else that follows seem not so much as an insult to the audience's intelligence, as a movie that ignores your intellect altogether.

City Of Gold
Never mind a generic trivialisation of an important mill workers’ issue, though that's disturbing enough. You’d imagine at least the family’s backdrop is essential to this plot. It isn’t.

Chhichhore
It's almost like the writer-director, at a living-room, is regaling you with anecdotes and blokes from his hostel life in an engineering campus. In fact, that's how this plot is also narrated in the film — to the lead character's son, who, along with the audience, is hearing all of this for the first time.

...Padukone's under-stated presence more than matches this picture's intention, as the film flits between a court-room drama, and anecdotal storytelling.

...subtly puts a lot of such debates into perspective. We should be proud of it. As we are, of Padukone fronting and backing it, of course.

Chala Mussaddi - Office Office
Television, free chewing gum for the brain, rarely demands half as much as a fully consuming film on the big screen in a dark theatre does.

A sense of fun is never lost. It’s the actors, no doubt, who make the ridiculous believable. Hence, you truly enjoy this ride for most of the part.

Bombay Velvet
This over-written, over-produced film—suffering from what can only be called the ‘curse of the masterpiece’ or a ‘magnum opus complex’—spins around in so many circles at the same time, your mind boggles at the thought of what could be the point of it all.

Here's what this film's super-star should do next. Pick up, remake every regional blockbuster of Rajnikanth's from the recent past. That's what super-hero, cartoon character Salman is to the Hindi audiences by now: Rajnikanth for the excitable North.

The sequel's forced the filmmakers to look for a plot on their own. I'm not sure if they did find one eventually. At least I can’t quite find it in the film.

Bhavesh Joshi Superhero
...with some cracker locations and fine camera work otherwise, is anything to go by, you can tell, the chops to recreate a Frank Miller type visual flipbook exist. Except the non-superhero on the screen, like the movie itself, merely moves around in convenient circles, and head-splitting clichés.

Begum Jaan
This picture, though slightly low-budget, is more over-the-top, or bombastic, driven to much melodrama, in the interest of grabbing attention, and popular entertainment, as it were.
