  • Padmaavat

The inconsequential 3D and an overly glossy crowd-wowing star spectacle make ‘Padmaavat’ look like pure product which manipulates the audience to love it. But the fact is, it lacks the real depth and hence the high of watching a good piece of cinema.

Yes, you can base a film on a true event and then fictionalise parts of it. But it is jarring to see a story that is muddled with way too many obvious tension-building fabrications to suggest that the impossible mission was no mean task.

...has a lot to like about - it is funny, spooky, crazy and a little bit different. It has some really interesting ideas; its execution is less than stellar, but it still works.

...Anurag Kashyap’s spin on modern love has a lot of heart and depth.  The film especially deserves a watch for trying to do something different to what we commonly see in romantic cinema. It’s a story well acted and well told.

  • Love Sonia

In the end, despite a certain emotional void created by average plot, Love Sonia is an honest attempt in portraying authentic horror of an issue clearly so close to filmmaker's heart.

...is a good effort, but a little more editing of the script and more fleshed out characters would have helped a lot. Nonetheless, it is an entertaining watch with some wonderful moments, some genuinely funny lines, and good performances.

  • Jalebi

With a catch-line like 'everlasting taste of love', it had promised a delicious recipe of romance but the film is a half-baked dish that is completely devoid of any taste.

...does have some genuinely likable moments but when the monotony of the drama gets exposed, the film's pace breaks down and the entertainment level drops.

  • Simmba

...is just another serviceable action movie that tastes like salted popcorn. It tastes good while it lasts, but eventually you end up rather dry and thirsty. It is all about glam and no substance.

...is a solid action/political thriller and one that has a lot of great moments with Dhar showing mastery in storytelling, control in creating intensity and a great performance from the lead, Vicky Kaushal.

...is cleverly scripted and executed with a brilliant cast. It is both engaging and enjoyable. It is also probably a rare Bollywood film that you have to love because it manages to outsmart you!

...is powerful, questioning, emotional, disturbing and one of its kind. The satisfying performance of both Rasika Dugal and Talha Arshad Reshi is worth noticing.

  • Kesari

Thanks to its over-the-top style and unabashed battle sequences, Kesari sets a new expectation for what audiences could call a fun, blood-ridden time. The story largely fails to be engaging, and often feels like a rehash.

...style is not a substitute for story. Some good things do not make up for the complete derailment of this bland endeavour and an exhausted viewer leaves the theatre wondering exactly what the hell had happened, both in front of the camera and behind it.

  • Student Of The Year 2

...is just a silly, formulaic film with stock characters who are just pretty to ogle. It's a bit crude, a lot illogical and you might have to be in a certain state of mind to enjoy a film this silly.

  • PM Narendra Modi

Given how obsessed we are with politics, we deserve better films about the topic. Sadly, Bollywood has never been great with political cinema. And this film doesn't change that notion.

...is cursed by a mundane script and forceful attempt to get the entire audience in tears. It is a film that seems signposted as a vehicle to attract attention for its committed leading star Salman Khan, but thanks to the team behind it it ends up as a vehicle that never gets out of first gear.
