Shaitan
In the end, it's all flash. This Shaitan is more SprayTan than Satan, staring us down and daring us to look away. Who blinks first? We do. Several times over.

Veerappan
It may well be a misfire, but Veerappan shows that at least RGV has his eyes open while squeezing the trigger. The dacoit is still at large.

Indu Sarkar
...demonstrates that it doesn't matter who is in charge if the thinking is oppressive. It serves also as potent warning to those in power now and in the future, threatening their legacies. Behave yourselves or else Madhur Bhandarkar will make a film about you.

Fitoor
...Kapoor casts two attractive people where he ought have chosen a couple of actual actors instead, and thus it becomes hard to care about the protagonists or their sundered hearts, and despite aesthetic appeal, what we end up with is -- at best -- a screensaver.

TE3N
...producer Sujoy Ghosh ensures that there is at least an aesthetic in place and the film is competently crafted even if it squanders its narrative potential.

Toilet
...all hell breaks loose (and hell, loos are broken) as the screenplay is gradually replaced by a government pamphlet. It all becomes painfully predictable, from a media scrum to a nick of time climax, and this film could well have been titled Poop-li Live.

Super 30
Mathematics whiz and educator Anand Kumar has led a remarkable life, coaching hundreds of underprivileged children past the rigours of the Indian Institute of Technology entrance exams. His story deserves attention, but director Vikas Bahl confoundingly embellishes it into typical filmi fare in Super 30.

Rowdy Rathore
It can hardly be called a film, but ah well. Watch it if only to remind yourself of old Khiladi flicks...

Hunterrr
It tries, flounders and -- despite the actors outshining one another -- fails rather miserably.

Yamla Pagla Deewana
...the film's second half does rustle up a few scenes of momentum, but this is a nearly three-hour film and we all deserve better. As do the Deols.

Zubaan
The whole film emerges, sadly, like one of those ads where you can half-hum the song but you forget what it was for.

Kites
...starts off well enough, but loses itself in a mess of superficiality, which would have been just fine if the film wasn't also masquerading as operatic drama.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2
...this juvenile single-minded immaturity hurts the comedy. It hurts the writing. It hurts the characters. It hurts the film.

Jai Ho
As for Khan, there’s nothing new to see here. But that’s probably the point. For a man who’s pushing 50, he’s looking spry and seems to be having fun playing to type, though the absurd amounts of money his movies rake in obviously help.

With Noor, for example, I cannot for the life of me figure out why the film's heroine wants to be a journalist.

Any good escape film requires detailed plotting, however, and Lucknow Central is frequently stupid.

...is a pointless, entirely forgettable film, but some may remember the girl (Sara Ali Khan) fondly — which may well be the film’s only task.

Khandaani Shafakhana
It’s as if the filmmakers were instructed to amp up the drama to increase the storytelling stakes — I keep picturing producers and executives asking for more conflict, the way characters in this film want more ghee on their parathas — and that hurts this film’s simple, good-natured spirit.

Force 2
The fundamental flaw in a film like this -- other than the repetitive wowlessness of it all -- is the fact that by creating too dry and no-nonsense protagonists instead of fleshing them out as characters, you end up failing the genre.

7 Khoon Maaf
...the heartbreak is in watching Bhardwaj, that fantastic master director, make a bloated film that plods sluggishly along, a film that doesn't connect either emotionally or sensually.

Chhota Bheem: Kung Fu Dhamaka
Animated films work because of how good the lines are, and Chhota Bheem appears content to settle for a few fat jokes. It’s a pity, because kids watching deserve a film as bright and spunky as the animation looks.

Mission Mangal
...while there are times Mission Mangal plays out pleasantly enough as a cheesy entertainer with a message, complete with a caricaturish villain in Dalip Tahil with an unholy accent, there are other times everything feels like too much of a stretch — even the runtime.

...while the action is convincing, the proceedings are unmistakably dull. The film doesn’t thump its chest as hard as the ones made by JP Dutta, but merely keeping its shirt on doesn’t make this an actual movie.
