Zanjeer
Ram Charan makes his Hindi film debut with this Bachchan remake, and my heart goes out to his fans who will have to sit through this tediously trashy film.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara
What is most upsetting is how the vital lines flounder the most: unrelated inanities pop up throughout, but it is when the script actually demands a line with some heft that there is none to be found.

Chor Chor Super Chor
...while not living up to the potential of its quirky idea, does offer laughs -- either because of actor, line or the stray scene.

Lootera
...a gorgeous, gorgeous film, one that uses its period setting affectionately, with loving detail, and not exploitatively, as our cinema is wont to do.

Ghanchakkar

Ishkq In Paris
...a bad film brought further down by a bunch of Bollywood cliches and a fading Preity Zinta.

Mere Dad Ki Maruti
It’s a ride, a goofy, forgettable ride. One that throws up a debutant director with promise and actors who deserve to be in more films.

Jolly L.L.B.
Clearly, Kapoor can bring the humour (though someone else should write dialogue.) But alas, preachiness and the need to flaunt the film’s sincerity and heart, gets in the way of a good time.

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns
...a theatrically indulgent entertainer, one that makes no bones about its pulpiness and stays well and truly juicy.

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola
And no matter the slight niggles: this is a film that goes far out on a limb, and gives us both bedlam and nuances, enough to warrant repeated viewings. And more than enough to love.

Dabangg 2
For a fan of the star in question, all that matters is whether the star seems to be having fun. In which case Dabanng 2 is just the ticket, since Salman looks to be having the time of his life. The film itself is better than the original -- or, to word it differently, is less unwatchable.

10ml Love
It isn't a well-shot, crisply edited, intelligently staged piece of cinema, but is warmly enough made to allow the legendary play to shine through.

Talaash
Someone asked me if Talaash was a watchable film, and indeed it is. It's better put together than a lot of the films we see here, and definitely strongly acted, but ends up so, so much less enjoyable than it deserved to be.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Chittagong
And while Chittagong falls well short of being a great film, it can't help but be an important one. And Pain keeps it honest.

Barfi!
And yet so impressive and earnest are most parts of Barfi! that one is inclined even to forgive its flawed centre; we want badly to overlook the film's peach-seed heart, and concentrate on the rest of its juicy joys.

Joker
There isn't a single line in Shirish Kunder's Joker that actually works, leaving us with a film that, while commendably brisk in a 100-minute package, refuses to get going at all.

Ek Tha Tiger
It could have been snappier, and the girl could have been much better, but the film should be applauded for giving us a non-sleepwalking Salman, and enough genuine bang for our buck.

Gangs Of Wasseypur 2
Like one of those unending strings of ladis, this is, then, a proper firecracker, even if far too long.

Maximum
The idea of corrupt cops facing off against each other can be a fine one, but mired here in the midst of people saying things really really slowly, it loses its steam.

Gangs Of Wasseypur
Kashyap gets flavour, setting and character right, but the lack of economy cripples the film. There is a lot of gunfire, but like the fine actors populating its sets, Wasseypur fires too many blanks.

Ishaqzaade
There is much craft on display, and some lovely moments, but the immense promise shown by the first half turns out as hollow as a politician's. Soaked in sloppy sexism...
