  • Chalk N Duster

Director Jayant Gilatar makes a pertinent film with some crackerjack performances by the lead cast. The story and its message is a winner, but the film is technically inept, complete with the limitations of dubbed sound and abrupt cuts.

  • Roy

Despite these flaws, the film is still enjoyable in sporadic bursts for the immersing story, an unconventional lead cast, and the visual flair.

  • Brothers

Oscillating wildly between a sports movie and a melodrama, this is your dose of punch-drunk love!

  • Agneepath

If you're a loyalist of the Late Mukul Anand’s Agneepath, you’re likely to have reservations with this one. But if you leave the comparisons aside and are willing to forgive the faults, Agneepath is worth a watch essentially to savor Hrithik’s performance.

The film is mainly recommended for Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s class act as the impudent criminal. Other than that, the film has some solid, immersing moments and an equal number that are misogynistic and repulsive.

  • Rang Rasiya

For choosing to tell the story of this extraordinary artist and for standing up for artistic freedom, Rang Rasiya is recommended. That it could have been a far better film, is another story.

Despite the flaws, the film is watchable for Nawazuddin's exceptional performance and the highly inspiring story!

  • Well Done Abba

...a bare look at contemporary rural India complete with all its unique challenges and nuances. And told with the Benegal stamp of folding in humour with comment.

The more things change, the more they remain the same. That's accurate for Hindi films, at least. On one hand we have subversive formula-breaking films, and on the other, we're clinging desperately to the formula as it were.

This writer isn't entirely convinced by what the film is trying to say, but recommends it for intermittent snatches of good storytelling, bravura performances and great music.

You may find the pace and storytelling a bit dated, but if you can forgive that, you have a mafia story that’s both gritty and fascinating.
