  • Stree

...an amiable comedy with a couple of good ideas, too many jump scares and the most confusing ending I’ve seen in a long time.

  • Sonchiriya

There’s a question that recurs through Sonchiriya: what is a dacoit’s dharma? At one point an answer is given: to protect one’s people and caste, to live and pass away in the ravines, to die from a bullet. A fatalistic response, and a bracingly nihilistic film.

  • Singh Is Bliing

...had a few classic comic scenes. With its lame script and tiresome gags, you’ll forget Singh Is Bliing within seconds of leaving the cinema.

  • Simran

After all the drama of the last month, it’s nice to be reminded that offscreen Ranaut, no matter how entertaining or scandalous, cannot hold a candle to onscreen Ranaut.

  • Simmba

Even for Hindi cinema, where rape-revenge is a thriving subgenre (there were four films on the subject last year), this is pretty dire.

  • Sanju

It’s a warts-and-all film that hedges its bets: Sanju baba is rarely kept apart from the viewer’s sympathy.

  • Sanam Teri Kasam

....it’s very difficult to take the film as seriously as they do—especially after it becomes clear that they’re unwilling to grant their female lead the slightest bit of agency.

  • Rustom

...uses all the sensational material the Nanavati case has to offer, the treatment is laughably bad...

  • Rangoon

...is a rollicking, messy, somewhat frustrating film—it neither coheres, nor does it let you drift away.

  • Raees

...because Khan holds so much in reserve, Raees remains a cipher. To borrow an old theatrical aphorism, he plays the king as if afraid someone else might play the ace.

  • Radhe

...is a supreme drag, and another outing for the trigger-happy enforcer cop in Hindi cinema.

  • Raazi

Like she did in Talvar, Gulzar assembles and marshals an expert ensemble. It’s a pleasure watching a detail-oriented director like her collaborate with an actor like Bhatt, who has a knack of making the tiniest gestures count.

  • Pizza

Pizza is big on visual trickery and distressingly casual as far as things like plot and credulity are concerned.

  • Piku

Instead of big set-pieces, Sircar gives us a series of small showdowns, confrontations and revelations. It isn’t the most arresting of films, but it’s never boring.

  • Pati Patni Aur Woh

...the problem with Pati, Patni Aur Woh isn’t that it’s offensive, but that it's dull and predictable for too much of its running time.

  • Parched

...it is lively, bright, charged and accessible. Chatterjee, Apte and Chawla are thoroughly enjoyable, and find excellent support in Chandan K.
