    Unfortunately, that intention and all its positives are completely overshadowed by its cringe-worthy keenness to bow and scrape before the present government and its head, an aspect of the film that lingers as much as its pluses because all the obsequiousness is packed into the latter half.

    SOTY 1 chose to spend more time on its characters’ bodies, make-up and wardrobes, its soundtrack and dance routines than on its writing, but proved to be entertaining in its own limited fashion. SOTY 2 seems not to even try.

    Ganeshan's direction is inconsistent. There's a disconnect between his storytelling style in different parts of the film. Plus he elongates a story that might have been effective as a one-and-a-half-hour songless thriller into an over-two-and-a-half-hour long, song-filled affair.
