  • Kick

Movies like Kick depress me – and not because of the ineptness on display, the sheer waste of resources, the utter contempt for the audience. What depresses me is that they become hits, and further the conventional wisdom that this is what masala cinema is all about.

  • Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey

The problem with Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey isn't its simple-minded straightforwardness. The problem is that not a single character in this story is brought to three-dimensional life - we get a parade of names and faces, and we could be staring into an illustrated history book.

  • Kalank

...the overall feeling is that of disappointment. Kalank is certainly not a lazy failure, but it ends up being an odd bird: watchable, but neither generic enough to overlook its flaws nor specific enough to embrace with all your heart.

  • Jai Ho

There is so little to root for in the film – despite such an emotional hook, of man helping fellow man – that we look for scraps...

  • Jagga Jasoos

The left half, he says, is logical. The right half is mad, magical. Anurag Basu has made a right-brain movie. I’m not sure it can be defended logically, and I’m not sure I care when the result is so mad, so magical.

  • Jab Tak Hai Jaan

It is perhaps a testament to Yash Chopra that he shepherds us past this material without making it look entirely ludicrous. Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a sturdy instruction manual on how to handle melodrama in the classiest possible fashion.
