    All this film needed was a bit more guts to chart its own path with Mary Kom herself as an inspiration. But sadly, they chose to play to the gallery instead. Mary and Priyanka deserved a better film.

    The basic plot is promising but then it is filled with so many loopholes that one wishes that the writers had concentrated on filling them instead of trying to cram in as many crude “Haryanvi” type of jokes into the script as possible.

    Kakkar deserves a round of applause for staying true to the story and thus establishing the fact that a sincere story, told with simplicity, can entertain you as much if not more, in spite of the absence of the mandatory romantic songs or worse still, an item number.

    ...alas, for most part, Varman, much like a good schoolboy, sticks to the novel, without really adding his own creative inputs. Bhagat’s book is no classic to demand that kind of reverence.
