  • Pihu

While you are in awe with how they managed to make a 2-year old single-handedly hold our interest through the film, Pihu is still a 90-minute long Public Service Announcement for making houses child proof.

  • The Fakir Of Venice

A unique story told rather plainly. I’m not asking for drama but would have liked a bit of a punch in the story-telling. Nevertheless, can be seen as a news item turned into a film owing to seemingly effortless performances by both lead actors.

  • Well Done Abba

We live in corrupt times and how?! Well done Abba reminds us of that and more. It reminds us of the gravity, the irony and our own submissiveness to the whole do. Would have worked much better if it were about an hour shorter.

  • Don 2

Smart lines and slick camerawork turns into tiring witticism and regular big-budget technicalities because it is over-written and over-stylized.

  • Padmaavat

An underwhelming fairy tale in characterization, narration and presentation. Not Bhansali’s visual best either. Yet, Padmaavat keeps you interested in Padmavati through 165 minutes, just not as interested as Khilji is in her.

  • Waiting

Both lead actors are wonderful though, their chemistry feels very real. They are one of the main reasons, the film took me out of 'review' mode and made me forget I was watching a film.

  • 102 Not Out

...the movie is a weird mix of concepts, and social and philosophical messages. A little bit of Anand, a little bit of Baghbaan, a little bit of cringe at having named those two films in one line. It becomes as much about letting go, as it is about a parent-child relationship and leaves you bored with both.

  • My Name is Khan

The constraint is really appreciated both in terms of Karan Johar's direction and Shah Rukh Khan's performance. But unfortunately, in the last hour the movie leaves the US and enters K-Jo-land. And in both worlds Kajol intolerably shrieks her way through.

  • Bombay Velvet

The lyrical noir and violence are enjoyable while they last. Unfortunately, not beyond that though. Before long, the plot starts getting convoluted.

  • Mukti Bhawan

As refreshingly simple as is poignant, as much about death as it is about daily life, as sombre as is spirited. Mukti Bhawan seems slow yet engages.

  • Pad Man

As much a story of tender care, as it is a story of social good and dealing with taboo. Worth a watch – for the avoidable struggle a common man went through because of the many social factors – even if not on the big screen.

  • Raajneeti

A could-have-been, wanna-be political thriller lacks the sizzle and cursorily glances over the sleaze. And yet, despite the dull lines, modern Mahabharat is a tale worth watching.

  • Rakht Charitra 2

Episode 2 is all that the first one wasn’t. It has a coherent story, it makes an attempt at character development. Actors rise above the stylization and actually put up a good performance

  • Badlapur

A well-made, well-performed revenge drama that makes you question your definitions of right and wrong, even if the story is unconvincing.

  • Mission Mangal

Two years worth of “eureka” moments fit into two hours make the film cute and as engaging as a well-made, animated film. Whether that was the makers’ intention, I know not.

  • Tanu Weds Manu Returns

The music will not leave your head in a hurry, and the performances will wow you. But Tanu Weds Manu Returns isn't likely to remain with you as film, because of its rather ludicrous plot.

  • Sonchiriya

The story, the performances keep you engaged, yet the film drags making it predictable because there’s just too much time to think.

  • Aiyaary

A decent thriller with a valid crux that could've engaged much better if it weren’t so slow. You’re left with too much time figure out the loopholes in the twists and turns.
