  • Why Cheat India

So though it derails itself in the last quarter of its duration, the film, by that time, has asked a few hard questions of the more obvious flaws in a higher education apparatus that relies on skills of rote learning, for both entrance and graduation.

...is a disappointing film from a good director. What surprises you is the mismatch between a subject and the natural style of Vikramaditya Motwane.

  • Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota

This movie starts off with an interesting script idea and then jumps into the deep end of the dead pool. Were the film stylistically made, it might have worked, but it is so poorly mounted and shot, ‘B’ grade vibes are given off by the end of it.

There is no doubt that the film is speaking to the converted. But what is interesting in the movie is the question of the how and why of cinema being used to preserve distinct political constituencies by so many parties and ideologies. Especially, at this juncture of our history.

  • Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi

The film has a few watchable moments, courtesy the deadpan delivery style of Jimmy Sheirgill, and an Urdu spouting Pakistani character (Piyush Mishra), a relic from the first film. But as a sequel, it is disappointing.

  • Manikarnika

The mounting of the film, particularly the battle sequences, is impressive, even though it suffers from some overuse and a little exaggeration. All the actors in the huge cast are competent, but none of the characters they play are textured in the slightest degree, including, of course, Rani Lakshmibai.
