  • De Dana Dan

And I finally understood why the credits in many Priyadarshan films say filmed by Priyadarshan instead of directed by Priyadarshan. Because there is little sense that someone is actually directing this circus.

  • Jabariya Jodi

...is over-plotted – characters keep getting married, kidnapped, nearly married and separated. Folks slap each other, which counts as humor. And the narrative swings wildly like there is no one steering it.

  • Jab Harry Met Sejal

Imtiaz and Shah Rukh coming together should have created a romantic classic. Instead Imtiaz has made his weakest film to date. Jab Harry Met Sejal doesn’t touch your insides. It’s not truthful enough to move you.

  • Mastram

There are so many ideas here about writing, sexual desire, fantasy, hypocrisy, the artist in the market-place, but they remain unexplored. Mastram is an opportunity lost.

  • Love Aaj Kal

...is a confounding film about confused people. Perhaps writer-director Imtiaz Ali was attempting to have the storytelling reflect the emotions of his leads. The result is an unholy mess.

  • Game

There's lot of strutting and style and high-tech sleuthing. But there isn't a story that makes sense.

  • Batla House

...make no mistake, Batla House isn’t a Rashomon-like investigation of many truths. The film is firmly on the side of the beleaguered cops and it makes its point with the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Which is why Batla House will satisfy John Abraham fans. Those biceps were not made for nuances. Viewers looking for a more layered exploration of izzat, farz, desh should probably go elsewhere.

  • Mumbai Saga

...slick editing, green-toned filters and the painfully loud sound design (there isn’t a car in this film that doesn’t screech to a halt) are too limited to fill the hole that is the story.

  • Panipat

This is writing by committee and it shows on screen – instead of an organic story, we get a fractured, leaden structure that moves from one scene to another with the help of a voice-over and animated maps.

  • Housefull

There is no craft or narrative or characterisation to speak of. Random events and characters, lies and misunderstandings serve to create a low-IQ comedy.

  • Housefull 2

...has exactly the same mix of stars, foreign locations, farcical plot and spectacularly dim-witted comedy as the first Housefull.  This is the cinematic equivalent of junk food - when you walk in, you know exactly what you're going to get.
