  • Patiala House

It is an old-fashioned Hindi movie with big drama, solid dialogue-baazi and moments that are genuinely moving and rousing.

  • Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji

...has an interesting story but the characters and situations aren't fleshed out enough. There is an inherent clumsiness and in places the film feels long and leaden.

  • Dhobi Ghat

...is an acquired taste. Either the film will sink into your skin like a slow ache or it will be bewildering and downright boring.

  • Tees Maar Khan

In Tees Maar Khan, everyone is overacting as though life depends on it. There is a lot of screaming, grimacing and heaving.

  • Rakht Charitra 2

Rakta Charitra 1 had an urgency that kept the narrative moving despite the clumsy voice-over and mind-numbing violence. The sequel has some powerful scenes but lacks cohesion.

  • Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey

...a noble attempt at restoring glory to long-forgotten heroes but honestly, I felt more charged and patriotic in the last 40 minutes of Lagaan than I did in this entire film.

  • Break Ke Baad

I'm officially instituting the two and three- quarter star rating on our show. This is for films, which show promise and sparkle but eventually don't deliver the goods.

  • Guzaarish

Combining euthanasia with song-and-dance is a tough, tough feat and despite his prodigious talent, Bhansali can’t pull it off.

  • Dunno Y Na Jaane Kyun...

The script, performances, dialogue and direction are so staggeringly inept that Dunno Y is an instant classic and the latest entrant to my list of so-bad-they-are-good films.

  • Daayen Ya Baayen

...a film made with love. Bela has a great affection for her characters. I'm recommending it with reservations. You need a lot of patience for this one.

  • Ramayana

...an ambitious step toward better homegrown cinema for children. I just wish it had more crackle.

  • Knock Out

...a mediocre filmmaker isn’t one who steals blatantly. He is one who steals blatantly and still can’t come up with a half decent film.

  • Anjaana Anjaani

...has a flatness that is unique. The screenplay, co-written by Siddharth and Advaita Kala from a story by Mamata Anand, goes nowhere fast.

  • Robot

...is exhausting. You won’t have much energy left when it’s done. But this roller-coaster ride should be experienced.
