  • Waiting

Both lead actors are wonderful though, their chemistry feels very real. They are one of the main reasons, the film took me out of 'review' mode and made me forget I was watching a film.

  • Force

...a perfect masala film, which also means, it is perfectly predictable. And yet, Force keeps you engaged.

  • Mardaani

A slick even if not taut thriller more than a film that keeps the social issue it is about in your mind after you walk out.

  • Bala

In that a body-shaming-themed film HAS to follow a certain trajectory, Bala holds no surprises. The one-liner insights and performances though are enough to see you through two hours. It actively avoids a few eye-rolls too.

  • Bbuddah...Hoga Terra Baap

...brazenly declares that this is a tribute to the legend and his prime years. Once you have done that, they could have gotten away with anything. They didn't necessarily need a story or characterization. But they give you that and Amitabh Bachchan unlimited.

  • Happy Ending

An urban romcom that tries to get a grapple on love. It is charming in its own way, but ultimately ends up having very little more than a regular romedy, as it likes to call itself.

  • Aiyaary

A decent thriller with a valid crux that could've engaged much better if it weren’t so slow. You’re left with too much time figure out the loopholes in the twists and turns.

  • Parmanu

An obviously over-simplified account of an extremely engaging real-life event. The real-life bit is what keeps you glued despite tacky execution.

  • Noor

Coming-of-age, social message, comment on media, con-men – Noor covers a lot of ground. Which might have been fine, if only it didn't start its sermon.

  • Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana

You get a ridiculous romance free with an intense revenge drama. Unfortunately, you leave with an after-taste of the silly rom-com instead of the well-written revenge bits.

  • Mere Pyare Prime Minister

At best, serves as an introduction to a Mumbai slum’s dire toilet situation. A rather tepid narration of a story that aims to tug at our heart and awaken a sleeping Mr. System. Succeeds at neither owing to its simplistic take.

...is sincere in intent and has perfect lead performances. But unfortunately, it isn't able to create a crisp environment.

  • Bangistan

Okay, okay, we get it. It is satire. The satire is witty too. But then, what? Nothing beyond the concept really. Also, does satire always have to be preachy?

  • Sui Dhaaga

Finesse comes through in language, costumes, and even performances. Not so much in the story writing or telling.

  • Shikara

An ineffective summary of the tragedies that people might have suffered in real life. And yet makes you wonder, if this is a summary, how horrifying might the details have been.

  • Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande

Parvin Dabas directs himself well. And he gets a few scenes right, but other than that his debut as a director Sahi Dhande Galat Bande doesn't engage as a film with a social message ought to.

  • Jazbaa

Warped and not in a good way. After a decent start, completely warps logic and the associated human element.
