  • Inkaar

...could have been truly radical. But it becomes a film that prefers to cop out, rather than deliver on the promise it held out so bravely in its initial passages.

...doesn’t break fresh ground, even as it does bring alive some of the most disturbing aspects of the time. And we relive it, even as we cringe at the heavy melodrama, and the over-simplification of many of the issues the film raises.

There are some good, sincere moments in the film. But I expected something fresher from Saurabh Shukla, who is also the writer. And overall, more edge.

  • I Am Singh

This could have been a perfectly acceptable film, presumably meant to release around the tenth anniversary of 9/11. In Puneet Issar's hands, it becomes a series of unintentionally hilarious scenes.

...could have been a genuinely ‘adult’ comedy of manners, but it stays right where it begins, the phrase ‘coming-of-age’ functioning more as eliciting an embarrassed titter than reaching the goal-post.

This one is way beyond. Idiocy is a gentle term for what is unleashed upon us. You can also call it a two-and-a- half hour show reel of plot-less, witless, joylessness.

  • Hum Tum Aur Ghost

The thing with films where leading men can see ghosts is that they need to be completely original. 'Hum Tum Aur Ghost' smacks a little of 'Ghost' , a little of 'The Sixth Sense' : the rest of it feels cobbled-together...

  • Housefull 2

Basically, Sajid in full flow, celebrating juvenalia. No plot (don’t be silly), decibel levels cranked high, situations careering from one gag to another, characters spewing rapidfire lines which are meant to make you guffaw.

  • Hindi Medium

The flat writing which doesn’t quite know whose side to take — show up the parents desperate for English-medium schooling, or point fingers at those who are inept gatekeepers of these bastions, or both, by sentimentalizing those who live below the poverty line as `good’ and `noble’ — turns this film much less than it could have been.

I wanted more because it comes from a director who knows, or at least has known how to transfuse exuberance in love, and joy in sheer movement. ‘Highway’ is pretty but stagey.
