Saaho
I know that a popcorn entertainer like Saaho isn’t driven by logic or coherence. And I would have made my peace with it if the film delivered a good time. My biggest complaint is that it’s a crashing bore.

Roohi
...a film that wants to juggle many balls – horror, comedy, feminist messaging, a love triangle, a bromance – but ends up dropping almost all of them.

Haseena Parkar
In the hands of director Apoorva Lakhia, writer Suresh Nair and actor Shraddha Kapoor, this material becomes the stuff of unintentional comedy.

Satyameva Jayate
...the sort of film that bludgeons you and leaves you drained and entirely cheerless.

Dream Girl
These are one-joke characters, and this is a one-joke movie. Very quickly, a sense of staleness sets in.

Vodka Diaries
...a film so preposterous that within a few minutes I started to feel a little embarrassed for the actors on-screen.

Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se
...tries to be a comedy, an Ayurveda commercial, a plea for national integration – specifically between Gujaratis and Punjabis – a love story and a moral science lesson.

Dabangg 3
...is a joyless, exhausting ode to the superstardom of Salman Khan. It’s a masala movie with little spice in it.

Raabta
This film veers from flat-out silly to unintentionally funny to tear-your-hair-out tedious.

Baaghi 3
Bronzed and shirtless, Tiger can outrun helicopters, tanks, men. What he can’t outrun is the mediocrity of this film.

Welcome to New York
...this incoherent mess of a film plays out more like an extended skit or a school play.

Jai Mummy Di
...the acting is bizarre, the writing is sloppy, the plot is incoherent and the background music is so purposefully annoying that you want to weep.

Bypass Road
My takeaway from Bypass Road is that perhaps it isn’t such a good idea to let an actor write a script, play the lead role, co-produce the film and have his brother direct it. Because then what you get isn’t a film, it’s a showreel.

Student Of The Year 2
...the clothes, the technicians, the sets, Tiger Shroff — must have cost crores, so why does Arshad Sayed’s script feel like it cost 50 paise? This is a question we keep asking our big-budget productions. SOTY 2 is undernourished and overlong.

Coolie No.1
The earlier Coolie No 1 had a cheery lunacy and a degree of innocence that allowed the ridiculous plot to play out as an extended joke. Govinda’s effortless clowning helped viewers to ignore the more problematic parts of the film. But in 2020, the narrative is dated and offensive on so many levels.

The Accidental Prime Minister
...strategically, a smart move. But here’s what I don’t get – why create such a shoddy product? The Accidental Prime Minister is narratively incoherent, technically sloppy and flat-out tedious.

Commando 3
...is a celebration of hyper-masculinity and hyper-patriotism. That’s not a good combination – either in cinema or in life.

Radhe
...yet another loud, numbing, pointless paean to the cult of Salman Khan. Radhe is so free of coherence and craft that it hurts.

Arjun Patiala
No matter how low your bar is, Arjun Patiala won’t meet it. Making movies is hard work and I always try and look for something to recommend in each film. The only plus here is that it’s short. You’ve been warned.
