  • Bhopal: A Prayer For Rain

Sadly, this film does not offer any new insights into the tragedy. It could have been far more touching with a better research. Nonetheless, the performances and a decent screenplay make it worth a watch.

  • Tum Bin 2

...there are new faces and another sobbing, tear-jerking love story. Does he bring back the same magic again? The magic is not lost with time, but it certainly has faded several shades.

  • Luka Chuppi

...it takes good material and excellent performers and turns them into caricatures. Sure, it has its moments and the second half is largely enjoyable, but you have to wait for the fun.

  • Kalank

From verbose lines to obscene opulence, Kalank is too theatrical and stage-y to feel current, which is where the old-world setup works… until it doesn’t. More attention is paid to the chikan embroidery on the husband’s kurtas than to the climactic revolution, and the third act exposes the story’s hollowness while the film flits inconsequentially between timelines.

  • Madaari

...is a testament to the talent of Irrfan – the Khan has been dropped. This predictable, inconsistent and implausible story would have collapsed completely with a lesser actor.

  • Kick

For a change, Salman Khan's Kick has much more going for it than just his charisma. It has a story and some brilliant performances to boot.

  • Badrinath Ki Dulhania

...Khaitan loses his grip before the high-voltage finale. In the end, he submits to cheesy-funny ‘dialoguebaazi’. That could help him in evoking some whistles, but it dilutes the purpose of featuring an ‘emancipated woman’.

  • Malang

It rides on the thrill quotient, has some good performances and a good looking pair at its centre but that’s about it. The plot ends up looking like a mockery of a subject that needed a better storytelling.

  • Mary Kom

...a highly fictionalised account of what actually happened, and in the process it turned out to be one of those films which are made just for whistles and quick money.

  • Begum Jaan

...has Vidya Balan in good form, but it lacks cohesiveness as a complete story. It shies away from delving deep into the theme, but you may appreciate its documentary-like treatment.

  • Prassthanam

An intriguing political drama exploring human nature, complex relationships, emotional turmoil and hunger for power, Prassthanam needed a revamp, at least in the treatment of story and the screenplay. However, some brilliant performances make it watchable.

  • Sanju

As director, Hirani, faced an uphill task in bringing back all those memories in their truest form in Sanju. Hirani does it the way Hirani can, by bringing in the humour and heart in almost every sequence, even the serious ones.
