  • Not A Love Story

We delve deeper into neither the young dream-chasers of a scary celeb industry nor chilling procedurals of an infamous police case, let alone the juicy tabloid drama that followed it. The narrative is predictably linear. Tsk. Waste.

John powers through all of this armed with his jaw-dropping muscles, limited acting skills and a ferocious sincerity. Sadly, sincerity is never enough.

  • Qaidi Band

...brings up a new concept and offers some wonderful songs, but that’s about it. It remains an average story told in an average way.

  • Batla House

There’s promise here in a film about a specific police encounter being scrutinised with extreme cynicism by the rest of the nation, and it builds towards an engaging finale, but Advani takes too long to get there, meandering through wooden actors and limber item-dancers in subplots that really aren’t the point of the story.

  • Bhoomi

...is a revenge drama that tries a lot to be bold, brave and advocate feminism but wants to stay in the comfort zone of a typical Bollywood masala film. The result is stereotypes, over-the-top melodrama and a predictable story.

  • Kedarnath

...is a pointless, entirely forgettable film, but some may remember the girl (Sara Ali Khan) fondly — which may well be the film’s only task.

  • AK vs AK

...must’ve sounded like a home-run on paper, but it isn’t as tightly constructed as it could’ve been and the twists are somewhat telegraphed. For all its ingenuity, it can’t help but feel like B-material — a dusty old idea spruced up for the streaming age.

  • Ok Jaanu

Shaad doesn’t add anything to the narrative and the leads aren’t dazzling enough to distract us from the inherent flaws — like the repetition and predictable ending.

  • Judwaa 2

...like the original, isn’t a piece of art, in fact it’s mediocre, but it’s that one film which may lift your mood.

  • Kurbaan

What you may brave through then is a flick neither real or serious enough to be a meditation on global terror, nor sweetly suspended and adequately brain-dead to be Die Hard. It’s hard to be both. The hardship shows.

  • For Real

This is the sort of self-produced, independent, low-budget, boutique film that you go to niche film festivals for. They serve as fair audition tapes for better things to come. Hopefully.
