  • Stanley Ka Dabba

Amole Gupte's directorial debut is brilliant, his narrative is easy and uncomplicated and the best thing is, he allows the children to be themselves, without forcing an adult's way on them.

Director Shankar's formula is simple. He keeps you so spellbound with visuals and joy and craziness that you meekly accept the lack of logic in several places and yes, a bit of tackiness too.

  • Soorma

With Soorma, Ali confidently gets to the centre, keeps his impulses under check, and plays it totally narrow, and fully straight. And, yes, he hits home, alright. This is possibly his best work yet.

  • Talaash

A no-frills taut plot, a gripping even pace, a limited character palette, some surreal moments, ‘Talaash’ is consistent as a thriller.

  • TE3N

Even though this film is a remake of a Korean film, 'Montage', full marks to Ribhu Dasgupta for giving it a strong local flavour, with familiar and comfortable sights and sounds.

...common sense and intelligence, the complete lack of which characterises this mad caper of a film, which you don't notice because, well, you are too busy being bombarded by the dozens of characters, their corny one-liners, the sheer profusion of the truck land aesthetic and your own loud laughter.

  • Drishyam

...reiterates the fact that when you have a gripping story, other things kind of fall in place, even if the film is somewhat at a disadvantage because of a fairly unsteady, under-confident execution.

  • Dhanak

...goes much beyond what one expected of it and actually manages to kind of temporarily transport you to a magical place where hopes don't die and the most impossible of wishes come true.

  • Uri

Supremely competent first-time director Aditya Dhar uses these weapons—sophisticated machine guns, grenades, rocket launchers, top-grade fighter aircraft—to hit home with a winning plot, over two hours, 10 minutes of stunningly shot (Mitesh Mirchandani), non-stop, military-action drama, packed with pyrotechnics that appear authentic, world-class, technically kickass.

  • Made In China

Sure the film, rather overtly, tackles too many things in one go. Most of it presented quite directly on a platter/bowl. But underneath all of this is an ingenious subject that so neatly captures the spirit of the current times—Indian entrepreneurship (call it 'jugaad'), and China (basically 'sasta maal').

  • Pagglait

Where the film manages to stay afloat with much aplomb though is turning all of this into a coming-of-age story of the young widow, whose life changes within the span of the 13 days it takes for the soul to exit a home.
