    If judgmental, one could be deeply offended by the unstopped flow of aggression and profanity. However, if in a lenient mind-space, the bloody battle for indeterminate causes could provide some amount of lowbrow fun.

    ...old wine in a new, expensive bottle. It's evident in the characterisation, the dated dialogue, and the choice of the heavy-duty background score where you hear a woman's alaap for the most part; a mainstay in our saas-bahu soaps.

    It certainly is a film that makes you both laugh and think. The execution may not have the finesse of a big-budget film, neither does it have the A-list stars. And yet, it’s one of the better films to have come out this season.

    ...the film talks about women's rights while including these sexist elements, and gives a muddled message. However, the film redeems itself to an extent by the story it chooses...

    Not only do I recommend Udta Punjab as mandatory viewing, I also urge that the film be made tax-free. Very few films touch a cord such that they can actually make a difference.
