  • Namaste England

Lack of conflict or chemistry between the lead couple, tedious dialogue and a mumbling monologue on how being an Indian is a matter of well-deserved pride (similar to the one in Namaste London (2007), minus the impact) restrict this story from taking any definitive direction.

  • Aksar 2

...for those looking for a suspense-thriller, the twists and turns here seem more unnecessary than unexpected and the predictably painful expressions inevitably culminate in a headache.

  • 1921

Relying on jaded tropes such as flickering lights, grisly halls, smoky corridors and chalk-faced spirits, there's little here that we've not seen in desi horror films in the last few decades.

The incestuous relationship shared between sports agents, players and journalists offered enough fodder for an inspiring story. This film chews on that fodder and spits it out without a thought.

  • Dilwale

...to take them (SRK and Kajol) for granted and expect that their mere presence would negate the need for a story, screenplay or any other element that makes a film, scripts Dilwale's doom.

  • Milan Talkies

It seems like this film was made in such a crazed frenzy to catch up with the wave of small towns stories that the makers couldn’t wait for the script to commence shooting.

...insults the audience’s intelligence. It wallows in mediocrity and believes that non-Metros (where they hope this film will have a good run) are stuck in the 1980s to lap up anything that’s lobbed at them.

  • Fever

Director Rajeev Jhaveri attempts a Hollywood-style narrative with conviction but underestimating the audience's intellect and oversimplifying the plot makes it a tiring watch.

  • Dobaara

Agreed director Prawaal Raman has a faint body of work to defend or live up to. But this doesn't entitle him to reduce horror to hilarity.

  • Jai Mummy Di

In recent years, there’s been an acute shortage of sharply-written and conceived comedies. But this one literally tests the audience’s ability to lap up just about anything that hopes to pass for one.

...each and every scene — from approaching a door with dread to bending over to reveal a dark apparition standing right behind, has been borrowed from some film or the other. That the makeup and prosthetics here seem dated and sourced from a Halloween party store also dilutes the overall effect.

  • Ekkees Tareekh Shubh Muhurat

...Hindi films have become obsessed with weaving stories that convey the life, labour and laughs of small-town India. While some closely-depicted accounts that lend themselves to situational hilarity have been remarkable successes, others feel that merely furnishing a socially-awkward premise is enough. This one, unsurprisingly, falls in the latter.

With a filmography jam-packed with adaptations, why director duo Abbas-Mustan lose the plot here, is perhaps because there was no source material to go back to. If there was, it was surely not worthy of a remake.

  • Aagaya Hero

It is upsetting to see Govinda here. With an enviable filmography, one wants to remember him as the ‘Number 1’ star whose memorable one-liners and dance numbers can’t be replicated by any contemporary actor.

  • Tera Intezaar

Sometimes, films are made without a recognisable motive. Did the producer want a selfie with Sunny Leone or Arbaaz Khan to inaugurate a jewellery store? We'll never know. But surely, the story and concept of this film were an afterthought which never got addressed in the bargain.

What passes for comedy these days is a broad spectrum of average writing. This one doesn’t have a single line that even meets that basic minimum.
