  • Beyond The Clouds

It may not be a deep, immersive, dislocating experience one usually has when introduced to unwavering spirits and personal narratives that his cinema has come to be known for. But it’s surely reminiscent of his previous work and sparkles up an appetite to revisit them.

  • Behen Hogi Teri

It's easy to forsake this film as regressive and the society portrayed here as dated and disconnected from reality. But then, when have screwball comedies in Hindi cinema subscribed to being politically accurate or sensitive?

  • Begum Jaan

Borrowing the tropes of saas bahu soaps, this one includes frequent close-ups and dramatic dialogues, intensified with gimmicks such as a sudden gust of wind blowing through them locks or a situational turn in the weather.

  • Befikre

For an Aditya Chopra film, this one is disappointing. The director, credited for epic romances, seems to be too consumed by his exploration of contemporary relationships, to be bothered to construct a story worth telling.

  • Batla House

Filmmaker Nikhil Advani and writer Ritesh Shah manage to assemble this story with multiple flourishes that often break the monotony of storytelling.

  • Bareilly Ki Barfi

Following her impressive directorial debut in Nil Battey Sannata, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari approaches this romcom with the heart of a Sai Paranjpye and the wit of a David Dhawan. But the money here lies in the writing and Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari conveys even the mundane in a manner to evoke delight.

  • Banjo

Riteish's signature line, which his character mumbles throughout the film, has a consistent prefix, "Life tumhe do choices deti hain..." For the audience, there's an option to skip this film or perish in a multiplex near you.

  • Bala

Amar Kaushik’s Bala is a rib-tickling exploration of the dip in self-confidence and self-worth triggered when hair begins to divorce the scalp.

  • Bajrangi Bhaijaan

...there is so little of the Salman Khan that his fans have grown to love and worship that in a way, BBis his Swades. Whether his performance deserves analysis and applause is debatable, but the effort to ditch his characteristic cliches is commendable.

  • Bajirao Mastani

...the cinematic liberties that Bhansali takes to colour the Maratha warrior and his controversial choice of partner, makes this an intense drama with distractingly sharp photography.

  • Badrinath Ki Dulhania

...treading the fine line between preachy and peachy, this one keeps you intermittently entertained and interested in the proceedings, even while the shallow attempt at female empowerment seems a bit jaded.

...while it manages to hold your attention and interest for the large part, the proceedings tend to occasionally get a bit too theatrical.

  • Badhaai Ho

This socially-awkward construct lends itself to such compelling material that even a compilation of reaction shots would suffice. But writers Shantanu Srivastava and Akshat Ghildial capitalise on the uneasiness of being in this pickle to script hilarious sequences that would leave you in splits.

  • Babumoshai Bandookbaaz

Director Kushan Nandy takes on an ambitious story and tells it in a manner that packs in sudden jolts. But he invests more in stunts and comparatively lesser in establishing motives. This makes the film full of scenes which would make a crisp trailer but when stitched together, seem like a clunky collective of gimmicks.

  • Baahubali 2: The Conclusion

With Bahubali: The Begining, S S Rajamouli gave us an epic that generations from now will watch — to appreciate and analyse, academically. With this sequel, he sets a milestone in visual technique and also establishes a benchmark in storytelling.

  • Baaghi 2

We cannot tell for sure if Tiger Shroff or director Ahmed Khan grew up watching Rambo and fantasised about creating an indestructible force who would scavenge through the woods to shower bullets on anyone in his line of vision.

  • Baadshaho

A formulaic plot, heavy-duty dialoguebaazi and characters with ulterior motives, collectively make this 136-minute celluloid attack on the senses much to endure.

  • Baa Baaa Black Sheep

Apart from sky-rocketing ambitions and embarrassingly mediocre execution, what renders this one particularly insufferable is its sensibility, which tips its hat to 80s Hindi cinema.

  • Azhar

A problem with this film is that it won't agree well with ardent Azhar fans, given the slips in factual accuracy. And his detractors would argue against his engineered victim image in the film.

  • Angrezi Medium

If only director Homi Adajania would have trusted his material and not underlined and spelt out everything, this could’ve been a sharper and perhaps, more introspective watch.

  • Andhadhun

The trouble with a compelling build-up is that it’s accompanied by unrealistic expectations — which when unmet, can lead to disappointment. Here, it almost seems as if the filmmaker decided to adopt the film’s title as his approach to stitch this one together.

  • Amavas

...each and every scene — from approaching a door with dread to bending over to reveal a dark apparition standing right behind, has been borrowed from some film or the other. That the makeup and prosthetics here seem dated and sourced from a Halloween party store also dilutes the overall effect.
