  • Tevar

A number of tropes in this script, for instance the damsel in distress who whimpers and then falls hopelessly in love with her knight in shining armour, are, like this film, conservative and well past their sell-by date.

  • Tere Bin Laden Dead Or Alive

The jokes are desperate, the performances so hammy they hurt, and the meta device overused to the point of misplaced self-congratulation, since this story was obviously dead on arrival.

Writers Shaad Ali, Suyash Trivedi and Siva Ananth gently follow a linear narrative to recount Singh’s story but the screenplay feels rather lazy and the drama of Singh’s inspirational story is barely felt.

  • Shubh Mangal Saavdhan

The screenplay manages to walk the line between crass and preachy, keeping the balance between comedy, romance and the sensitivities around a taboo topic. However, a collection of nice moments and thoughts is untidily stitched together.

Devgn has clearly put time and effort into his direction, but appears to have put less into his performance. Neither makes the grade. And let’s face it, there can only be one Liam Neeson.

  • Shikara

Given his personal connection with the story, Chopra captures emotion and upheaval, loss and fear, hope and hopelessness. However, as a chapter in Indian history, the film required a great deal more context and deference to the complexity of politics in the Valley.

...should have augmented Onir’s oeuvre. Perhaps being based on a script written over a decade ago contributed to the feeling of datedness.

  • Satyameva Jayate

It may not be the most intelligent thriller, but its lack of pretence is its greatest asset. It’s entertaining for some of the right reasons, and plenty of unintended ones.

  • Sab Kushal Mangal

Khanna seems to be having fun with his moustache, mischief, heartland politician, and rough around-the-edges Casanova character. The film hits the right notes when he is on screen but declines to near pallid when it focuses on the flimsy romance between Sharma and Kishan.

  • Saat Uchhakkey

...the climax does come with a twist but it’s wholly unsatisfying and a tad convenient. The one highlight is the way the actors embrace these characters, banter easily and show relish for those expletive-heavy lines.

  • Roy

Singh’s un-Bollywood storytelling (long pauses, silences and thoughtfulness), colour palette and controlled drama are refreshing, but the pace is sluggish and the plot too thin to carry a two-and-a-half-hour film.

  • Rocky Handsome

The punch-by-numbers action scenes are not enough to save a poorly adapted film with poorly pitched performances, out-of-tune casting and tacky execution.

  • Ribbon

Not all ideas translate well to film and though are some moments of note, if Ribbon works at all, it is credit to Koechlin’s and Vyas’ committed and convincing performances.

  • Qaidi Band

...rather than leave it to the audience to discern and feel, circumstances are described and speeches delivered patronisingly. The script soon turns towards drama, a poorly planned escape and a convenient climax.

  • Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2

You really have to ask yourself about the maturity of the scriptwriters who have clearly given vent to their misogyny through this immature sequel to the 2011 film.

  • Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

You can imagine brides-to-be making mental notes of which lehengas and saris they want copied as they watch this opulent, colour-coordinated costume drama.

  • Poster Boys

The issue of over-population is tackled with a light hand and while the humour is anything but subtle, Poster Boys will appeal to fans of the brothers Deol looking for an inoffensive good time.

  • Poorna

Poorna Malavath’s story is well documented. The film handles that with reverence and sensitivity while addressing it’s additional motive: to deliver a message about realising dreams, maximising opportunities, encouraging the marginalised to break out of community constraints and caste shackles.
