    Once Upon… seeks to entertain – it does so resoundingly well; it seeks to establish parallels with real life characters and events as well as to create a period ambience of the 70’s – this part is executed with mixed success. Though when it comes to its third ambition – that of texturing it with a moral debate – what comes across is a half-hearted attempt and failure.

    Kiran Rao does enough in Dhobi Ghat to warrant an expectation fueled second look. Though had she shown a little more courage by going deeper into the cross-cultural undercurrents, which she seems fairly capable of, she could have come up with a winner instead of a middling effort.

    ...if lifting a film without giving due credit to the original is a crime, officially adapting a classic and murdering it is a sin. Bumm Bumm Bole is an occurence of that sin at its fathomable worst.

    The film lays a huge stress on its style quotient, which is quite pertinent to the subject. However, thinking that the high style can substitute for substantial writing is a huge folly.
