...shakes you from within compelling you to think, something not many films can boast of doing these days. A compulsory watch for anyone who relishes intelligent cinema.

There isn't much going for the film apart from Patekar's wit and Kashyap's acting talent. Without them, this film would probably have not got a single star.

The writing also lacks finesse in certain scenes and feels disjointed or incomplete. There is a cloud of a Madhur Bhandarkar film like Page 3 or Fashion that looms large over the second half of Shab.

  • Sanju

Frankly you don’t need to be a fan or a friend or family member of Sanjay Dutt to invest emotionally in this film. Even if you have a vicarious bent of mind (which most of have) you will take away a lot from Sanju.

  • Romeo Akbar Walter

As the espionage thriller’s lead actor, John, who plays a cucumber-cool spy, stays within character. But he is let down by mediocre writing and amateur direction. As a result, the pace is sluggish.

Imtiaz deserves credit for trying his hand at something different from what the mainstream churns out every week. And for bringing back the one aspect sorely missing from Hindi films lately -- music.
