Phoonk 2
...characters are supremely dim-witted and even the frights are too few and far between. One of the pleasures of these type of horror films is guessing which character will be bumped off first and how. But Gadagkar’s killings don’t show any flair or imagination. The horror is more Ramsay variety.

Paathshaala
...is staggeringly inept. The script by Hanif Sheikh has no discernable arc.

Prince
...is the funniest Bollywood movie I've seen this year. I laughed so hard that my sides hurt. Only I don't think that's the reaction debutant director Kookie V Gulati was aiming for.

The Japanese Wife
...is an acquired taste. But if you’re the type of viewer who is willing to sacrifice pacing for poignance, I recommend you go for it.

Pankh
...is frankly ugly and beyond a point, absolutely tedious. Sanjay and Sudipto want to be edgy and dark but the writing isn’t sophisticated enough to support their ambitions.

Tum Milo Toh Sahi
...the attempt here was a bitter-sweet love letter to Mumbai and its people but the film is fatally undone by the clumsy writing. The screenplay is static and the dialogue, superbly low IQ.

Well Done Abba
...is heart-felt and intermittently funny but not flat-out delightful like Benegal’s last film Welcome to Sajjanpur. You need oodles of patience to enjoy this one.

Hum Tum Aur Ghost
...muddled script, which veers between rom-com, drama and high emotion, in the most meandering way possible.

Love Sex Aur Dhokha
...the film is a worthy experiment created by one of Bollywood’s most imaginative and original directors. Let me warn you that it is a polarizing film. You’re going to either love it or you’re going to hate it.

Teen Patti
...is a train-wreck of a movie. It's incoherent, lengthy and worst of all, agonisingly pretentious.

Karthik Calling Karthik
...is inconsistent with its own internal logic. When you backtrack and see how the pieces fit, it doesn’t hang together.

Click
How hard can it be to make a reasonably diverting horror film if all you’re doing is copying? Well, if you’re Sangeeth Sivan, the answer is: very hard.

Toh Baat Pakki
...feels like eating left-overs that have been reheated too many times. It’s not very appetizing.

My Name is Khan
...never becomes the empowering, inspiring Forest Gump-like epic. Mainly because the connective tissue tying it together is deeply flawed and in places, embarrassingly naive.

Striker
...is the kind of film that fills you with regret. There is skilful direction here, some nicely etched moments and commendable performances and yet the film never gathers enough momentum to make an impact. Striker never becomes the film it could have been.

Ishqiya
I know its only January but I think its safe to say that Ishqiya is the most crackling film you’ll see this year. It’s feisty and sly and very, very sexy.

Veer
If like me, you can find delight in the sheer delirium of a bad Bollywood film, then see Veer, otherwise do catch it on DVD. In a few years, this sensibility and swagger will be extinct.
