  • Khiladi 786

...here was great potential here - the successful Khiladi franchise, the A-list cast, good music and so on. But debut director Ashish R Mohan makes a film that's a diluted, washed-down version of several such films.

...fails to grasp your attention or convince you to invest our emotions. Which is a shame considering the potential of this story that's unique in so many ways and encapsulates a range of developments.

The nuances in the story are reflected brilliantly in all aspects of the film from the performances to the technical aspects like production design, music, editing and photography.

This writer isn't entirely convinced by what the film is trying to say, but recommends it for intermittent snatches of good storytelling, bravura performances and great music.

...the film is not a total let-down. It has an interesting protagonist, an arresting story (sadly told in a simplistic fashion), and some effective moments. The gripe is this could have been a far, far better film. Too bad, really.

The story is told with the zest it deserves and is enhanced by the sparkling dialogue. Sadly, the director has a messed-up second half on his hands. Still, worth your while for the unusual story, interesting coupling, and the irreverent humour.

  • Jannat 2

A tired story with cliched characters propped-up by an OD on machismo, some dialogue-baazi, and a gorgeous heroine does not a film make.

...lacks the realistic bite of other prison films and also falls short of connecting the audience to the character’s angst.

  • Jai Ho

The film appears to be a massive PR fillip for Salman—working on his image of a do-gooder with a volatile temper. The film and his image feed off each other. There's also some token nationalism forced in for good measure. You'll get a lot of Salman Khan here, but an entertaining movie, you will not.

  • Jab Tak Hai Jaan

You may chaff at the exaggerated sentiments, but you sit through the film, completely involved in the story. Despite the flaws, the film is recommended for Yash Chopra’s magic.

...the tale is indeed a remarkable one. If only there were performances to back these inspiring, spirited characters, and a film that worked together as a whole, instead of delightful separates.
