  • Jaanisaar

...Ali falters in picking his lead protagonists and herein lies the difference between Jaanisaar and his magnum opus Umrao Jaan. This canvas looks appealing but it doesn’t converse with you beyond a point.

  • Fatso

Using magical realism Kapoor deals with deep-seated human quandaries in a light-hearted fashion but ultimately fails to realise the potential of the subject.

  • Kajarya

There are many stories that lie hidden in the depressing newspaper headlines. The art is in giving them a compelling, emotional shape on screen. Madhureeta Anand succeeds but marginally so in Kajarya.

  • Hichki

...the film doesn’t go past the facile commentary; a very deliberate righteousness and piety, ingrained in the narrative, detract rather than reinforce the significant issue of inclusion.

  • Shab

The filmmaker embellishes Shab with generous dollops of mainstream Bollywood grammar, while you keep wishing he breaks free and implements a restrained approach, like with his earlier works. But what you end up with instead is a farrago of unrealised ideas, where no particular story shines through.

  • Kadvi Hawa

...is essentially a short story on screen with a proverbial twist in the tale. Panda, however, plays it too slow for its own good — long sequences, seemingly static scenes. It gets protracted and plodding.

  • Veere Di Wedding

...at a time when the gender question is in such a serious churn and feminism debate at its sharpest, Veere’s light-hearted and giddy take would seem entirely out of depth.

  • Kedarnath

A protracted climax and worn-out clichés come in the way of what could have been an interesting cinematic exploration of a social fabric in turmoil.

  • Gold

...Akshay Kumar is insisting on being the Neo Mr Bharat, film after film, that is now beginning to bore and grate. Someone please rescue him from being the inspirational conscience keeper of contemporary shining India and take him back to entertainment, entertainment, entertainment.

  • Ishaqzaade

Writer-Director Habib Faisal succeeds to a great extent in crafting an unpredictable first half full of spunk and spirit, but plays it boringly safe in the second, offering no new solutions or fresh perspectives in a story that has been done to death.

  • Tevar

...there are loopholes and creative licence is exploited but it is good fun on the run till it enters its final lap. After experimenting with the template, Amit suddenly runs out of ideas and decides to sum it up in conventional fashion.

  • Brothers

The problem is, be it emotion or action, Karan is in no hurry to say cut. At times it works for the emotion to seep in but many times over elaboration dilutes the punch.

  • Ajji

The only thing new here then is turning an arthritic grandmom into the avenging angel. Ajji is no more than Mom and Maatr at their most excessive; it just locates the same rape narrative at the other end of the social spectrum.

  • Bhavesh Joshi Superhero

Somewhere Motwane gets too self-aware and conscious—be it the genre of superhero cinema he is playing with or the issue of corruption itself. The point gets belaboured and the film too protracted.

  • Zero

The characteristic outstretched arms of SRK get smaller, as does his height, the creative ambition gets bigger but the film stays resolutely middling when it could have been much more.

  • Street Dancer 3D

The dance here looks like action set-pieces, bodily contortions and jumps and leaps in the air. Similar and repetitive at that, and stretching way too long over 150 minutes.
