It’s rare to see a layered film. It’s rare to see a film where everything falls into place. It’s rarer still where actors leave their stardom behind and behave like normal people, have normal conversations, have normal reactions, normal emotions.

  • Super Nani

The only take-away from the film is that Rekha is as beautiful, as vivacious and super talented as ever and that our writers should really think of giving her meaningful roles that suit her stature.

The film belongs to Hrithik Roshan. He makes you forget the bad make-up and varying accent through his sheer involvement in the role. He underplays the anger, the pain, as well as the joy,  felt by his character and makes us believe in Anand Kumar.

Kudos to writer and director Sharat Katariya for coming up with such a rooted tale. And kudos to Varun Dhawan for agreeing to be part of it. He has tried something totally new for him here.

(Writers) Raj and Krishna are known for their wacky humour and they do not disappoint here too. The film is peppered with silly situations bound to keep you in splits throughout.

...offers a potent blend of dacoit drama, karmic lesson and caste politics with some realistic action thrown in for good measure. The performances alone are worth the price of the ticket.

...the film is as massy as they come. The punch dialogue, slow motion action, quirky dance moves -- it's all there and more. And Ranveer takes to this new avatar like fish to water.

  • Shimla Mirchi

Watch the film to catch a whiff of a bygone era where romance was all about a boy meeting a girl in picturesque locales. Shimla is no longer the visual paradise it used to be and sadly the formula too is past its sell-by date..

Though a mass exodus is shown, the hurdles this huge group of people must have faced are all but glanced over. It’s as if the director doesn’t want to go there. This reluctance steals the film of some of its gravitas.

The writing goes from being focussed to being all over the place. In effect, the balance of the film isn’t right. It’s too intense in some areas and playful in others.

  • Section 375

The industry went through its phase of #Metoo allegations. Does Section 375 hints through its bizarre ending that all those accusations weren't quite kosher? Well, your guess is as good as mine...

It’s a reexamination of the life of one of our most controversial film stars and Rajkumar Hirani has made every episode seem as real as it could get. But the treatment is such that you don’t end up feeling like you’ve watched a news documentary. Humour is both Hirani’s sword and shield and he has used it well.

If only the makers could have gone for a lighter veined romance instead of heavy handed drama. This hesitation is keeping a singularity to the storyline and treatment is jarring, to say the least.

  • Saina

Director Amole Gupte initially shows signs of not getting too over awed by Saina Nehwal, not shying away from showing some chinks in her armour. But he doesn't follow through with his examination all the way.

  • Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3

...Dhulia has made an entertaining film which thrives because of the efforts of its main cast. It's an earthy saga, where the boundaries between good and evil are almost nonexistent and hence might not prove to be everyone's cup of tea...

...does make the right noises about how dowry still makes life hell for the girls and that they should be allowed to make their own choices. It asks questions but doesn’t offer any concrete solutions.
