  • Panga

...is refreshing. It’s a story that could be just as effective and inspiring if it were set just about anywhere. And it works for drafting relatable moments that offer a subtle yet distinct shift in sensibilities.

  • Paltan

A dialogue in this film goes ‘heroes don’t choose their destiny, destiny chooses them’. But if you were to pick Paltan, be rest assured, your destiny is doomed.

  • Padmaavat

Following the noise around this film, one can't help but scrutinise it for objectionable depiction. But even if Bhansali suspends reality in his immersive world, it's a strike from reality we'd like to hold on to.

  • Pad Man

...it barely alters the squeamish attitude many hold against the routine discomfort biologically assigned to all womankind. And this is where R Balki slips. It was a noble cause for sure, if only the makers would have soaked up some of the melodrama.

  • One Day

The Equaliser-like premise offered promise, but exaggerated performances, clichéd turns and inability to flesh out the idea, eliminate any possibility of being thrilled.

  • Ok Jaanu

Retelling a story in another language means being sensitive to the nuances of the recipient language as not everything will translate precisely, something that wasn't taken into account here.

  • Noor

...this one's a bit too ambitious for a film with zero vision. The issue is that Noor stands for everything and sits down for nothing in particular.

  • No Fathers In Kashmir

Director Kumar manages to infuse a matter-of-fact manner in interpreting the grave issues covered. While he deliberately singles out religious fanatics from militants who consider themselves patriots, the delicate handling of the subject-matter retains the gravity of the issue, without being too overwhelming.

  • Newton

Director Amit Masurkar packs in humour, tension and even adventure, in this political satire that despite being largely uneventful, keeps one interested and concerned about the proceedings on the screen.

  • Neerja

If you've read about the real events that have inspired this film, you know how it will fold up. But even so, this one scores for managing to pack in a few surprises.

  • Nawabzaade

What passes for comedy these days is a broad spectrum of average writing. This one doesn’t have a single line that even meets that basic minimum.

  • Namaste England

Lack of conflict or chemistry between the lead couple, tedious dialogue and a mumbling monologue on how being an Indian is a matter of well-deserved pride (similar to the one in Namaste London (2007), minus the impact) restrict this story from taking any definitive direction.

  • Nakkash

...the makers barely manage to go beyond the compelling premise and its inevitable conclusion can be predicted just minutes into the film.

  • My Birthday Song

While the objective of psychological thrillers may vary, a reliable yardstick would be its ability to leave one unsettled. My Birthday Song hopes to achieve this by leaving the audience dazed and confused. But incessant reliance on tropes and lack of focus, leaves one disinterested and bored — even before the big reveal.

  • Munna Michael

Despite a wafer-thin story, Khan leans on the tropes of masala films by leaning on silly humour, neck-wrenching action sequences and dance moves that defy gravity, to make the two hours twenty minutes you spend watching this film, not entirely unbearable.

  • Mulk

The first half of Mulk is crisp. Events unravel swiftly and unexpected turns manage to translate the tension, frustration and anxiety across the screen. But the second half is largely restricted to a courtroom procedural which is reduced to a tedious theatrical drama where every punchline is followed by a laughter track or so it seems.

  • Mulk

Director Anubhav Sinha touches a relevant nerve with Mulk, and this fictional story seems believable as marginalised groups continue to be routinely targeted in this country.

  • Mukkabaaz

Anurag Kashyap fans may be a bit disappointed here. The filmmaker who doesn't hold his blows, seems constricted in telling this story. Not that there aren't enough bloody noses and hammered eyes, but the overall treatment seems to be tweaked for universal appeal.

  • Motichoor Chaknachoor

Despite a shaky start, the film manages to engage and entertain in spurts. But sharp quips and jibes can only carry this film till the end of the first half. Post interval, we’re tossed into a saas-bahu-grade intense family drama.
