Unfortunately writer-director Sanjay Tripathy can't lift this script from its quicksand of predictability, and can't avoid the mawkish melodrama that stories like these inevitably slip into.

...is ultimately tiring and heartbreaking even. You can see the talent on screen. If only there was a sharper script to harness it.

As you leave the hall exhausted from the sheer length of this misguided enterprise, you cannot help but note that despite its many flaws, this is a noble failure. The film doesn't work, but not for lack of trying.

It's likely that buried somewhere under all those unfunny jokes, simplistic sermons, and cringe-inducing melodrama, there may have been a promising idea at the heart of Bangistan.

If you're not a fan of the long-running sitcom and unfamiliar with its cheerfully dim-witted characters, there's a slim chance you're going to appreciate the juvenile humor...

...is nicely shot, and there are moments where Shah Rukh Khan is riveting. But that's not enough to hold your interest for well over two hours...even the actor's most loyal fans will find themselves yawning.

...while director Aditya Datt and his writers may have cracked a sure-shot climax, they invest very little in the rest of this sloppy thriller.

  • Student Of The Year 2

...is both predictable, and far from original. But that’s not even the big problem with the film. Unlike the previous instalment this one isn’t grounded in emotion, so it’s hard to be invested in the characters or affected by their conflicts.

  • Satyagraha

Sadly, the director's storytelling has become so hackneyed that his cinema now merely pays lip service to issues instead of making a stronger comment.

  • Damadamm

What could've been a sweet, simple love story turns into a confused film that never justifies its spirited title.

  • Why Cheat India

It’s a shame you leave the cinema bored and underwhelmed because there was potential here to make a smart film about our flawed education system – one that encourages mugging and rote learning over understanding; one that values a degree over real aptitude. A system that drives students and their parents to seek dangerous, unhealthy shortcuts. Some of that is addressed but it’s not really what the film is about.

  • Malang

There is both a love story and some good songs in his new thriller Malang. There are also, to be fair, some interesting ideas floating around. But those ideas never come together coherently; they’re lost in a film that is more interested in surface-level stuff.
