  • High Jack

Comedies featuring potheads are either dope-fuelled adventures (Go Goa Gone) or supply chain masala khichdis (Dum Maaro Dum). This one is on the cusp of migraine and vertigo and promises to mass murder brain cells.

  • Hichki

Essaying a disability onscreen challenges an actor’s potential and process and Rani conveys her character’s condition sensitively without overdramatising it.

  • Hey Bro

...what we get is Andaaz Apna Apna sidekicks, leopard-printed heels, ping-pong sound effects, classic dialogues 'remixed' as rap songs, and skimpy numbers that rhyme 'rude' with 'dude' and 'mood'.

  • Hello Zindagi

...a terrible film, not worthy of anyone’s time or money. The storytelling is inconsistent and ludicrous, the performances range from ordinary to bad, while any sort of direction is painfully missing.

Kajol may look like a million bucks but her version of a pushy mum who tries a bit too hard to fit in is little short of caricature. To her credit, it is the writing that often lets her down.

  • Hawaa Hawaai

Gupte works hard to imbibe collections of moments into his storytelling; the love and conviction for his subject is indisputable. Hawaa Hawaai isn't as compelling as his previous efforts, but still merits a watch for the gratifying culture he has constructed.

  • Hate Story IV

This one has it all—murders, conspiracy, deceit and enough lace and leather to keep front-benchers glued to their seats. But by the time we reach the climax and motives and plans are revealed, the only niggling issue is why go through such a winding scheme, when badla could be avenged through a couple of bullets?

  • Haraamkhor

...may not be a film that sets a cinematic benchmark but it is an important one as it dares to explore a forbidden subject, without condemning or legitimising it.

  • Happy Hardy And Heer

...while this film’s largely-predictable story may not pierce through your better sense, it may not disappoint those with no expectations, looking for a mindless watch.

  • Happy Ending

Seen before, done before. Narrative styles, conflicts, background scores and supporting characters have begun to overlap. All that differ are the littler details—professions, environments, guest appearances.

  • Hanuman Da Damdaar

An animated retelling of a mythological epic would seem an appropriate vehicle to apprise millennials of the significant yet lesser-known tale. But for Bajrangbali's sake, the visuals are so sketchy, it trivialises the tale of bravado.

...details Kashmiri cultural ceremonies and presents the Valley through the eyes of a local — something only a few filmmakers who’ve shot in the region have managed. But it also successfully manages to subliminally highlight the local sentiment without turning into a political statement — which is its biggest victory.

Director Nila Madhab Panda has made a career of drafting films (I am Kalam, Kadvi Hawa) which pack in a social message or three. If only these mass vehicles of public betterment could’ve been peppered with some cinematic flourish, they would’ve been a bit more bearable.
