Mukkabaaz
...packs a massive punch. Watch it because it is one of the more important films to have come out of the Mumbai movie industry in recent times.

Tiger Zinda Hai
At an exhausting two hours and forty minutes, I really don't care if Tiger is alive or a vegetable - whether he's Zinda or Tinda, really - but this film needed to be much tighter.

Tiger Zinda Hai
Undeniably impressive in terms of its scale and flawless technical attributes, Tiger Zinda Hai is an exercise that rings utterly hollow. Its surface nous cannot conceal the sheer purposeless of all the noise it generates.

Monsoon Shootout
...has the sinews of a high-octane, action-packed Bollywood underworld tale. What defines it more significantly is its overly arty packaging. It turns the film into a stylish, if a touch laboured, piece of cinema.

Fukrey Returns
For a film that aspires to be a full-on laugh riot, Fukrey Returns is a bit of a trudge.

Tera Intezaar
You might ask: why does this film deserve even half a star? Well, it is for whoever it is who dared to believe that Tera Intezaar could be passed off as cinema. Takes loads of guts or a whole lot of stupidity!

Firangi
Neither the comic potential at the core of the film nor the energy of Kapil Sharma's antics is enough to pull it out of the irremediable mess it degenerates into. Firangi might have been harmless fun if only it had stopped short of running so hopelessly amok.

Kadvi Hawa
It is designed to provoke contemplation and action, a mission that it achieves without any serious slips. Watch it because it is an important film that offers an essential takeaway.

Tumhari Sulu
...is a special film, the kind where you know what is going to happen and yet texture and detailing give you much to marvel at.

Tumhari Sulu
...isn't a perfect film, but it is definitely well worth a viewing as much for the quality of the acting and for its technical finesse. In any case, a film is easy to fall in love with when Vidya Balan is this stupendous.

Qarib Qarib Singlle
The unhurried rhythm of Qarib Qarib Singlle might put off average filmgoers but if you see value in a film that breaks away from norm and derives strength from understatement rather than flashy storytelling methods, your search ends here.

Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana
...is a massive, uncontrollable cinematic blob that runs its tiresome two-and-a-half-hour course without ever getting its perspectives in order.

Ittefaq
Despite the relatively brisk running time and a double murder at its heart, the case runs cold and Abhay Chopra's film emerges unforgivably dull.

It sets itself a modest target and achieves it without breaking a sweat.

Chef
...holds no secret sauce of its own, but perhaps we shouldn't be that surprised. There is only that much you can do with a reheated film.

Judwaa 2
...might work for those that don't mind being sold old trash in a new, garishly painted sack. For all others, it would be akin to being strapped to a seat in a torture chamber.

CRD
...is a classy, satisfying, magnificently inventive package. It heralds the birth of a filmmaker who clearly has the makings of a path-breaker, if he already isn't one.

Newton
...a film that, while striving to be admirably dry, proves at times to be achingly dull. The film's go-nowhere pace seems to be a conscious decision but its highest, most telling moments come through scintillating lines of dialogue (take a bow, Mayank Tewari) and actorly flourishes from a great ensemble.

Haseena Parkar
Nothing, therefore, can salvage this insipid biopic from the morass of mediocrity.

Lucknow Central
Any good escape film requires detailed plotting, however, and Lucknow Central is frequently stupid.

Simran
Unfortunately the film, doubling up as a showreel for the actress, pretends also to be a drama, a thriller, even a sweet romance. None of these other gears work well enough, and the eventual result is tedious.

Daddy
See it for the austere unflinching portrayal of violence. For sounds and visuals that do not afford us the luxury of aesthetic gratification. And most of all, for Arjun Rampal's powerful performance that creeps up on us without warning.

Poster Boys
While the premise is wafer-thin, the frothy plot after a few minutes becomes tedious. But it is the base writing credited to Bunty Rathore and Paritosh Painter that keeps the momentum of the narrative well-greased. With puns, film referenced dialogues, fast-paced dumb repartee and farcical situations the film is a hilarious ride.

Baadshaho
There is no dearth of surface gloss in Badshaho. A peep behind the glossy curtain reveals an overcooked but bland curry western that deserves instant banishment to the wilderness it has emerged from.
