PK
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...comes as close to storytelling perfection as any mainstream Hindi movie has done in living memory.
-
All the credit for this goes to the captain of the ship, the genius filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani who has raised the bar once again.
-
...a solid entertainer that will surely entertain the masses and classes alike.
-
...Hirani tells us yet another powerful and brave story.
-
It's amazing that the makers thought of bringing us such an entertaining and thought- provoking film through the eyes of this unique character.
-
Its amusing insights and bold message make PK hit home.
-
...it is a rollicking mainstream entertainer with ambition to evoke some introspection, one with compelling moments and some genuine surprises.
-
The two smartest screenwriters of our generation, Mr. Hirani and Abhijat Joshi, have gone one better and crafted not so much as a movie as a relevant argument—with the usual ebbs and flows, dramatic flourishes, pauses and lapses in concentration (bloated second half) that characterize fierce debates.
-
...a fun film with proper dose of ‘gyaan’. It’s a film that shouldn’t be missed and it’s brave because it attempts to create a better world.
-
Its amusing insights and bold message make PK hit home.
-
...a simple film with a strong message-of love, peace and humanity.
-
Yet again, Rajkumar Hirani blends comedy with a social message and gets a point across. Even if the comedy doesn't work all that well, it is a film worth a watch for sure.
-
...by far the most honest and earnest big-budget film of the year.
-
...the director’s biggest feat is the idea, its effortless translation and its politics.
-
...a must-see for many reasons, and by that, I mean the protagonists.
-
Entertaining blend of social satire, sci-fi and comedy.
-
Packed with sharp dialogue and genuinely funny moments that offset the lack of subtlety, it is easily one of the year's better films.
-
...is not as brilliant as Hirani’s Munnabhai 1&2, but it’s still an excellent film that throws up surprises every step of the way. It had me laughing out loud then crying like a baby. It broke my heart then raised my spirits.
-
...more than a scathing satire, it is best to take it on face value as an entertainer that is all heart revolving around real people who you want to root for, which is really what counts. Hirani leaves the best of 2014 for the last.
-
If you’ve been thirsting for movie magic, there is so much to love about PK, especially in the fun-filled setup of a first half — one so exciting that you are most likely to forgive what doesn’t quite work in the second.
-
What you need to re-purpose these themes is nuance, which, after a point, goes missing. This is where the Hirani magic recedes, and the film becomes commonplace.
-
We keep getting emotionally overwhelmed in the way Hirani has now mastered. We are putty in his hands. But his tricks are all too transparent and in the end the emotional drubbing leaves you feeling underwhelmed.
-
The bigger problem is that the film practically reeks of formula. Hirani has become some sort of Madhur Bhandarkar, telling, essentially, the same story and simply focusing on a different facet of society.
