Setters
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...lacks is a dramatic core to keep its many arcs in check.
-
A thriller devoid of any sort of pressure, falls flat and thus feels never ending. Solid writing would have done wonders for a film like this that had the potential to be gripping.
-
Chaudhary gets the milieu, lingo and the social nuances and hierarchies right and has a fabulous ensemble of actors, some in smaller roles, but the film doesn’t hit a high note.
-
The writing goes from being focussed to being all over the place. In effect, the balance of the film isn’t right. It’s too intense in some areas and playful in others.
-
...the film attempts to ‘expose’ the manic mayhem and desperate measures that some adopt to clear competitive entrance tests for engineering, medical and management courses. But what it actually manages, is a scramble of fickle ploys, predictable scams and obvious turns.
-
...lays all its cards on the table in the first act itself: the follow-up is over-long and tedious. And, barring a few sharp moments, flat.
-
Whatever restraint or spark Setters demonstrated in its initial stages is tossed out of the window to crash into an untidy mess of snarling evil and tame virtue.
-
...is a Neeraj Pandey movie directed by someone else (Ashwini Chaudhary), one that features Shreyas Talpade and Aftab Shivdasani in place of Akshay Kumar and Manoj Bajpayee.
-
...has a lot going for it. In its execution though, it does not quite add up.
