Bombairiya
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...Pia Sukanya is a welcome addition to the quirky list of Bollywood helmers who have a vision and the capacity to say something what they believe in.
-
And though Bombairiya is far from perfect, it is an ideal example of how that statement rings true. Sukanya and her team deserve to be commended on a decent effort all round.
-
...this derailed comedy carrying a serious message is worth the ride only if you don't mind meandering journeys going nowhere...
-
...has a few moments of glory but overall, will fail to lure its audience.
-
...this one’s a confused, chaotic mess that lacks humour and a clear thought process of what it hoped to achieve. Complicated is not always clever.
-
...odd and impractical lapses in writing are meant to pass for hilarity in this supposed comedy of errors which can surely culminate in a headache.
-
...the humour not sharp or bizarre enough, and the narrative too disjointed to hang together.
-
It's chaotic, funny but has too many threads which make this non-linear film a tiring watch after a while.
-
A sharper edit at script and film level would have helped somewhat, but not enough to raise this comedy, with a hue of blackness, out of its own disorderly screenplay which leaves too many loose ends and unanswered questions.
-
...there is more drama than anything else (the three writers possibly said: Plot? What’s that?) to keep the viewers engaged.
-
This kind of multiple stories device has been used time and again in cinema to great effect. Bombairiya, however, is a call to give it a long, if not permanent, rest in Bollywood. Its use in the film feels entirely needless...
-
...is a tangled mess, neither funny nor engaging. It's a comedy of errors all right - more errors than comedy. Be warned, don't even think of sitting through it. Torture isn't funny.
-
The script of this film is no different. It throws up a lofty ideal and then quickly buries it in the absurdly meandering plot of its narrative.
-
...has the strands, but is bereft of that one thing all movies need: a plot. Whatever passes for one is so hare-brained, so all-over-the-place that you wonder just how this thing was cobbled together.
