Listen… Amaya
Critic reviews and ratings
-
A 'now' story, lovingly told!
-
Watch in theater, not for cinematic brilliance but for a story well told.
-
Avinash Kumar Singh has sensitively handled a strong subject textured with social and psychological complexities. His characters peel layers of emotions, without over-dramatizing scenes, or amplifying the issue. It is subtle and sincere.
-
Its real strength doesn’t come from production values but two of the most natural actors of Hindi cinema (Farookh Shaikh, Deepti Naval) and a remarkable young woman (Swara Bhaskar).
-
Too often, it feels like the film is straining for hipness, with its coffee table books and jogging and touristy Delhi locales like Khan Market and Chandni Chowk. All of which are at odds with the three living, breathing characters at its centre.
-
...does what it sets out to do, bringing us closer to the realities of those past their prime, with a modicum of success. It may not be an exciting film to watch, but it is a brave one to make.
-
...had it all to make for a relative contemporary story on human relations but sadly it disappoints due to its amateurish treatment.
-
...has its heart in the right place but falters in its execution.
-
I liked some of 'Listen Amaya', I really wanted to like it more.
-
Doesn’t do justice to the nostalgia that it merrily plays on. A rather limp, listless and protracted narrative.
