Made In China
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...carries the message of normalizing conversations around sex and exposing the taboo and hypocrisy surrounding it, which is a commendable effort but it also does get preachy.
-
...inspire some giggles and the film makes for an interesting watch that also packs a relevant message.
-
...is a comedy containing a serious message buoyed by solid performances all around.
-
...suffers from a slow pace in the second half, but the overall product isn't too shabby.
-
Sure the film, rather overtly, tackles too many things in one go. Most of it presented quite directly on a platter/bowl. But underneath all of this is an ingenious subject that so neatly captures the spirit of the current times—Indian entrepreneurship (call it 'jugaad'), and China (basically 'sasta maal').
-
Given the premise, Mikhil Musale had a potential rib-tickler here. But while he manages to keep one interested and attentive through a large part of the film, his inability to hold the story together, particularly towards the end, takes the wind out of this one.
-
...is your typical Chinese product – it promises a lot but is low on performance. Watch it for Rajkummar and Boman’s terrific acting.
-
...lacks a good story and execution to make a mark.
-
...is a fairly entertaining watch coupled with a socially-relevant message. But the lack of a more intense approach pulls down the characters and their scope to evolve.
-
...scores mostly in acting and is miserable in other departments.
-
The film isn't happy being just a comedy. It arrogates to itself a serious, larger purpose and takes a shot at earnest drama centred on performance anxiety. When sex and guilt go hand in hand, the film tells us, quacks and charlatans have a field day. On paper, the notion is great. On the screen, the result isn't.
-
Alternating between pedestrian comedy and overwrought drama, Made in China's biggest problem is its inclination to repeatedly digress, resulting in fleeting interest in its helter-skelter proceedings.
-
...is an utterly confused film. It is unsure about what it wants to focus on and achieve.
-
What does Made In China want to be ? A double-meaning-dialogue-laden romp-in-the-sheets, or a go-to sex manual for repressed Indians? It veers, alas, towards the pulpit.
-
The movie tries to marry the world of the inept trader with nothing to sell and the enlightened doctor with something important to say, but no amount of magic potion can make this union work.
-
...fails to hit the bull's eye because it sorely needed an evening out of pace and tone, depth of characterisation and detailing in the plotline.
-
...is a film with potential. But like the placebo effect in ‘Tiger Magic Soup’, deceives to flatter.
