Section 375
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...an audacious effort. It is a relevant film that tackles a complex issue and one that will engage, inform and open up debates.
-
...has all the potential to create a huge impact in Bollywood courtroom dramas on sexual crimes. Intensely powerful, well etched, relevant with top notch performance...
-
...is a crackling film that delves into the subject wisely, talking of issues that we are only happy to brush under our carpets and bury in our closets. It’s by far one of 2019’s best film and I recommend you give this one a dekko for sure.
-
...this film dares to delve into the unchartered territory of convictions that disregard some of the equations pertaining to the case. If these often-ignored connections were to be highlighted, they may not undermine the heinous act but would surely put things in a new perspective.
-
...is a hard-hitting courtroom drama that raises some important points.
-
The industry went through its phase of #Metoo allegations. Does Section 375 hints through its bizarre ending that all those accusations weren't quite kosher? Well, your guess is as good as mine...
-
...is an engaging courtroom drama that deserves a watch.
-
In the interests of free expression, then, it is necessary to hear the support for patriarchy laid out by Section 375 – just as it is possible, in a democracy, to decide for yourself whether the movie is an effective legal drama or a bilious defence of deeply entrenched sexism in Bollywood.
-
Well-made? Sure. Good performances? Absolutely. Well-written? Crisp. Did I like it? No. But then, shouldn’t a movie be made on men’s rights? Oh absolutely. And a round of slow-clap for that.
-
...as the politics of Section 375 gradually comes into view, it loses all claim on even-handedness. This is a film too smug about its own neutrality, using it as a front to sneak in a damaging conclusion.
-
The film not only provides validation to all those dismissing sexual harassment cases as having ulterior motives but also does great disservice to women, who have only recently had the courage to risk social stigma and share their stories with the world.
