Fukrey Returns
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...it is funnier than the first part. That familiar craziness you've seen in the characters is not just back; it has doubled, in fact.
-
...gives you a reason to laugh out loud.
-
...is a fun, clean film that works despite the illogical and slightly unconvincing plot.
-
...is powered by some kick ass actors who give terrific performances and add significant value to the fun.
-
If one approaches this one as a comedy, it would be mildly satisfying as it sporadically strays into the thriller space and the strategically-planted comic elements seem forced and constructed. But hope for nothing, and you won't be bitterly disappointed.
-
For a film that aspires to be a full-on laugh riot, Fukrey Returns is a bit of a trudge.
-
...had a chance to engage and entertain had it not been for its episodic, often nauseating, slapsticky humour.
-
...the gags, contrived around comically hostile interactions and burdened by a steady supply of predictable rejoinders, fall completely flat.
-
A screenplay that appears promising in the first half is interrupted by far too many twists, which do little to lift the film. In fact, in an attempt to verbalise every development, the humour runs thin from the onset of the second half.
-
...soon dissipates into exhausting foolishness.
-
It isn't spectacular, but does leave you with a smile on your face, at the end.
-
...is a sequel that wants to be bigger, better and funnier than the original. In all fairness, it does manage to fulfil its ambitions on two accounts. It is bigger, it is funnier but it's certainly not better.
-
Watch Fukrey Returns if you like but don’t expect the spark of the original. Plus, the giggles are more like a reminder of the original Fukrey and nothing more.
-
The quirky characters and their oddball humour is again the mainstay even as the thin plot gets stretched to its utmost limits. You want the things to come to a closure fast even as they drag on and on with one laboured situation piling atop another.
-
Theoretically, a sequel offers up the opportunity to fix the flaws of part one and strengthen the story. In reality, this is unlikely to happen when your source material was unworthy of a follow up.
-
...the situations are so tired and contrived there’s nothing that even such capable hands as Richa Chaddha and Pankaj Tripathi can do, to retain our interest.
-
...unfunny, unintelligent and repetitive.
-
It’s hard to see a film that seemed as casually tossed off as Fukrey gain a follow-up that’s so labored.
-
...is funny but its gnawing hollowness is impossible to ignore.
-
This film alas has none of the original humor, the jokes seem forced and out of really bad whatsapp forwards, the characters have no redeeming qualities and despite a bigger budget the story seems forced.
