Jagga Jasoos
Critic reviews and ratings

I spy with my little eye an experiment that works for the most part.
-
...a zany, warm-hearted and popsicle-bright movie that never loses its infectious spirit of adventure even its most expendable moments.
-
...isn't a particularly bright caper. It's about seeking nirmal anand whose playful ingenuity is held together by a bag of unending tricks that lend the trip wind in its wings and cheer in its will.
-
Though the film has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, the final product compensates for it all. Catering primarily to kids, Jagga Jasoos is highly entertaining and a must watch this weekend.
-
It’s a cliché, but no other word can sum up Jagga Jasoos better: Cinematic. Well, that’s it. Jagga Jasoos is the most ‘cinematic’ film you have seen in the recent months.
-
Cute, fun detective story taking on huge issues of the world. Juggles all of that well but becomes long-drawn in the process.
-
The left half, he says, is logical. The right half is mad, magical. Anurag Basu has made a right-brain movie. I’m not sure it can be defended logically, and I’m not sure I care when the result is so mad, so magical.
-
If Jagga Jasoos, for all its deviations, passes muster, it is largely due to a pivotal star turn that is worth its weight in gold and the heartily surreal touches that Basu imparts to this colourful, imaginative fantasy.
-
...is too long, but great fun watch. Ranbir has great comic timing, and Katrina - even though she looks exhausted most of the times - makes for a great sidekick.
-
...wins in the way the story is told, not necessarily in what the story is. Take a trip to Anurag Basu's fantasy land this weekend.
-
Catering to every childhood fantasy, Jagga Jasoos keeps you hopeful and rooting for its spectacled snoop, especially in situations where chances of the eponymous jasoos' survival seem bleak.
-
...could have been so much more. But it just feels like a long and winding screenplay that tries to fit in too many clever ideas
-
...is a missed opportunity in the end. This surprise musical fantasy solely rides on Ranbir Kapoor's infectious charm and those couple flashes of brilliance.
-
The Broadway musical format does give Jagga Jasoos some captivating moments but they don’t quite add up to an entertaining film.
-
The singing stratagem occasionally gets in its own way, with dramatic scenes rendered silly by characters breaking into song. There’s also the baffling decision to cast, opposite Bollywood’s nimblest male star, the slow-reacting, risk-averse Kaif.
-
...brings together a range of quality ingredients, but something has gone wrong in the cooking of it. It is highly engaging up to a point, but needed tighter writing and direction to stay on course.
-
...is a badly written and very poorly executed musical. The film doesn't offer any entertainment value for either children or adults.
-
Ask yourself if you are ready to watch a script-less film with singing dialogues and there's your answer.
-
...for all cause and effect, this is a completely children's movie. Clearly that part of the message doesn't seem to have been relayed well as I look around at the morning show in my theatre, which is half packed, but mainly with young adults—the lead actor's personal fan base. There isn't a single kid. Now that's a bummer.
-
...is never more than the sum of its parts. The film’s heart – the moving father-son dynamic – is buried somewhere under all the manic Tintin-like adventure and the sensory overload it triggers.
-
Trouble is, in its zeal to put together novel locations and exotic hot spots, ‘Jagga Jasoos’ forgets to give us a story. The good-looking leads are left to fend for themselves in a sinking plot. What we get, with the exception of a few smiley moments, is a long, dull meander.
