Mardaani
Critic reviews and ratings
-
It's an edge-of-the-seat thriller that catapults you right into the middle of the plot. The execution is near flawless and it takes you a while to realize that this is a film on child trafficking.
-
...a pragmatic and compelling story of what it is to chase down the bad guy.
-
This one deserves a big thumbs up for giving us a cop with a realtistic streak, and of course, for woman power everywhere.
-
This film is Rani's career best.
-
...strikes that delicate and hard-to-achieve balance between realism and entertainment. Very very nice, Mr Sarkar.
-
...relevant, powerful and inspiring with a top notch performance by Rani Mukerji.
-
Director Sarkar receives high quality assistance from his principal technicians, who combine to keep Mardaani simple and focused on its clearly delineated plot all the way through.
-
An intelligent and emotional thriller.
-
...we have an interesting film with an inspiring hero, a menacing villain that you personally want to thrash, and a story that touches your heart.
-
It’s efficient and watchable, but also cold and mechanical despite the sensationalism inherent in the material.
-
Apart from the characterisation what really works for the film is the taut screenplay.
-
A slick even if not taut thriller more than a film that keeps the social issue it is about in your mind after you walk out.
-
It's a well-made commercial Hindi film - reasonably short and minus songs - that's trying to say something.
-
The best thing about Mardaani is the performances, led of course by Rani.
-
...is mostly a taut, focused film...
-
Coming a week after the dreary Singham Returns, Mardaani is essentially a demo on how to do this kind of film with class and a certain sensibility.
-
If only the script weighed more in intensity of thoughts than stagy heroics and simplistic resolutions, it could do a lot more for women in the film industry if not society in general.
-
Watch it if you have been a Rani fan, but don’t look for any depth in the story.
-
A definite watch if you are a Rani fan, Mardaani is just an above average revenge-action cop flick.
-
The resolution, showcasing bloody vigilante-ism, is problematic. Is that the only definition of ‘mardaani’, and is that something to be celebrated? Something more pragmatic, and yes, more real, would have served its consistently watchable leading lady, better.
-
...a shamelessly manipulative and exploitative cop drama.
-
This police film’s predictable plot line is rather low on thrills.
