Nanu Ki Jaanu
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...when it turns into a whodunit in the second half and a new emotional angle is introduced, it falls completely flat. Neither the performances nor an ever changing storyline, where newer characters are introduced, help pick it up.
-
All said and done, the film is definitely worth a few laughs. Watch it for some good clean fun spiked with a light dose of horror.
-
When not playing its hammy sentimentality on a loop in a series of daddy-daughter flashbacks or going creepy full throttle, Nanu Ki Jaanu coughs up some unintentional laughs in moments of genuine bizarreness.
-
...is simply a misconceived film which holds no fun, surprises and entertainment. The film seems to have no purpose. If you have your bets on a bad film, it is a clear winner!
-
...supports the cause in its weird mix of ghost comedy meeting a rom com in a quirky supernatural way, fails to follow the traffic (read genre) rules and changes lanes in its overenthusiastically genuine thoughts that are ‘doomed’ by a juvenile execution.
-
Social messages in a ghost-romantic-comedy. Yes, that’s 4 genres in one sentence. And that’s not counting the many “Public Service Announcements” within those social messages. A bit much that alas adds to not much.
-
Suspense is thin in a movie with three major characters. The staggering incompetence on display ensures that the events are neither funny nor frightening...
-
...is an extremely poor show.
-
At various stages of this film, one wonders what compelled the makers to go ahead with this supposed horror-comedy.
-
...convoluted chaos.
-
...the film is uneven, half-baked disappointment, which completely wrecks the talent of Abhay, Patralekha and even Chadha. They all deserve better than this. We all deserve better than this.
-
Let's just dump this film into the vault of ignominy where it belongs after asking this question, 'Why Abhay Deol, why?'
-
The film may have been a larky idea, but practically nothing rises above the execution.
-
To be fair, silliness, if done with aplomb, can be sublime fun at times. Nanu Ki Jaanu is none of it, only laughable.
-
...a heavy-handed jumble that is both horrific and funny, neither of which is remotely intentional.
-
It is scary in a few parts and funny in more, which is why it is so sad that in the overall assessment and especially in its finale, it turns out to be such a loosely handled, low-IQ mess.
-
Nothing makes sense or entertains in Nanu Ki Jaanu.
-
Sad. Very sad-chiefly for the super-fine, and now ironically an under-rated actor, at the centre of it all.
