Boss
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...a full-on masala entertainer that's very clear of its intent. It is designed to magnetize lovers of desi commercial cinema and woo the BO.
-
A complete paisa vasool experience at the movies...
-
...a 'kick-ass' entertainer.
-
Full-on timepass!
-
The best I can say for Boss is that it’s not terrible.
-
If you are an Akshay Kumar fan and appreciate his comic timing, watch this one.
-
if you had liked Rowdy Rathore and Khiladi 786 and other Akshay Kumar random action comedies then you’ll certainly like this.
-
...will find its takers among the ones who have been making films like Chennai Express record-breaking hits. The movie for the others will prove to be highly mediocre.
-
...a highly mundane film.
-
Given the low benchmark of this genre, it’s akin to praise when I say Boss is neither as absurd as Rowdy Rathore nor as ghastly as Policegiri.
-
The humour is cringingly coarse, the stunts are completely over the top and the emotions never ring true.
-
Too many recent solo-hero action-comedy flicks have suffered from this problem. They’ve even begun to resemble each other. Where does Rowdy Rathore end and Khiladi 786 begin? Where does Dabangg end and Ready begin?
-
I've had my fill with these South Indian action-comedy remakes and I suspect you have too.
-
I imagine Akshay Kumar’s film slate to be decided thus: Look for public holiday, decide release date, work backwards. Script, cast and director are incidental.
-
...is way too long. There are very few scenes that are actually funny in this supposed entertainer.
-
What you’ll get in the film is lots of Akshay Kumar and a few amusing moments. What you’ll have to endure for that is the entire film. Do the math.
-
For all intents and purposes, this could be called Rowdy 2, because Akshay does exactly what he does in that earlier film, but with different co-stars, and a plot that is totally subservient to labelling him Boss every two minutes.
-
The action-comedy category, characterised by such films as Wanted, Singham and Rowdy Rathore, is primarily aimed at boosting the careers of the marquee male stars who headline them. Every actor who isn’t the ubermensch that no force in the world can withstand doesn’t need to bother. Why then should audiences?
-
Another one of those falling in the "What else did you expect?" genre.
-
Neither original, nor entertaining, this Boss deserves to be fired!
-
Yet another tribute to the escapist entertainers of yore? Ok then, this kind of lazy filmmaking deserves to be hit. With a scale.
-
Akshay Kumar does what he can to keep things afloat, taking care of the action and the drama and the comedy, but unless you’re Amitabh Bachchan, these one-man circus shows are never a good idea.
-
...horror show.
