Dabangg 3
Critic reviews and ratings
-
Some films are experiences, and therefore, shouldn't be restricted with star ratings, or discussions about the film's merit. A Salman Khan film, in this context, is a rollercoaster ride. You buy a ticket, stand in line, take your seat, buckle yourself up, and pray to the almighty that you don't puke on thy neighbour.
-
...shows Salman in his element – throwing deadly blows at the villains amidst all the smoke, dust and fire, while you can hear chants of Hudd Hudd Dabangg in the background. And those certainly will be paisa-vasool moments for Salman Khan's fans.
-
...if you have loved Dabangg and are an admirer of Salman Khan then it’s time to say Hud Hud Dabangg Dabangg otherwise stay away.
-
...is a predictable revenge saga which capitalises on the star power of Salman Khan.
-
With some loopholes and a little flawed writing, Dabangg 3 does leave you feeling a bit lost in a time when content-driven films are the trick of the trade.
-
Salman Khan, at 53, pulls off his cocky cop avatar with excessively smug dialogue, devastating dropkicks and by packing a dance number while getting jiggy with his belt. After all, his ardent fans couldn’t care less for the conventional metrics of evaluating a film. And when the going gets painfully formulaic or predictable, toss in an item song for good measure.
-
It’s quite impressive to be honest, achieving this level of pomp and show with such little substance for inspiration.
-
...there's no point intellectualising, analyzing, mentally masturbating over a movie that makes no bones about its severely lowbrow, literally below-the-belt purpose.
-
...has a wisp of a story told in a tawdry, slipshod way. It depends entirely on the goodwill and popularity of the original and the star power of Salman Khan to sail through.
-
...the forced comedy track and the laughably predictable twists undo a lot of the good.
-
...isn’t funny or even campy enough to be anything more than an aging hero’s throw of dice, hoping that third time will be as lucky as the first two.
-
...is an all too formulaic one-way street that holds no surprises at all. It goes nowhere we haven't been before.
-
No ‘pyaar’, no ‘thappad’, and even Shirtless Salman eliciting only muted ‘seeties’? What’s the point then?
-
...dated, dull and clichéd...
-
The film feels like a string of unimaginative, repetitive action scenes strung together, pausing every few minutes for an underwhelming song.
-
Lacking the calibre to create something fresh, the makers pick on the most popular attributes of the original -- the catchy dialogues, the quirky name by scribbling the sloppiest possible Chulbul Pandey origins that does little besides prolong the Dabangg 3 torture to nearly three hours long.
-
...is a joyless, exhausting ode to the superstardom of Salman Khan. It’s a masala movie with little spice in it.
-
...is determinedly, proudly stupid – a sadly representative end for a decade of largely unwatchable Hindi action cinema.
-
A slowwww clap for the social messaging—as slow as the slo-mo used, without which too the film would have been slow. A genuine clap for the attempt at story, though. As amusing and self-important as it was, at least they tried.
-
The characteristic style of the franchise disintegrates, until the narrative implodes in a messy trail of unbelievable plot turns and disjunctive scenes.
-
...what the sequels have done, really. They’ve reduced the Dabangg universe to a joke.
